According to reports, the New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman, will be sidelined for at least two more weeks due to a knee tendinitis.

The Yankees announced Chapman has been placed on the 10-day disabled list after asking to come out of the game versus the Miami Marlins, and manager Aaron Boone says Chapman will be re-evaluated in two weeks after he receives a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left knee.

According to Boone, Chapman’s doctor’s visit went OK and there were no new findings in the evaluations.

“We’re optimistic he’ll return in an impactful way this season at some point,” Boone said.

Chapman had an absolute hot start to the season. He had a 1.35 ERA with 26 saves, 17 hits allowed and 68 strikeouts over 40 innings, and was named an All-Star.

However, Chapman has struggled in the second half of the year. In just nine games, Chapman has posted a 6.43 ERA with 16 strikeouts and 11 walks.

This two-week timetable projects that Chapman will be looked at Sept. 7.

Injuries have plagued the Yankees this season after their great start, however, there are a few players who hope to make their way back to the field before the playoffs.

Catcher Gary Sanchez (groin) will play Saturday in his first rehab game in the Gulf Coast League as a designated hitter. Boone says that it is possible that Sanchez will be back in the lineup when the Yankees go on the road to face the Athletics, Mariners, and Twins.

In addition, Aaron Judge (right wrist chip fracture) continues to work on his conditioning, however, hasn’t yet begun to swing the bat. Also, shortstop Didi Gregorius (bruised left heel) threw Friday as he progresses through his DL stint.

The Yankees end their regular season against the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 30, and currently, hold a four-game lead over the Oakland Athletics for the first wild-card spot in the American League.
