According to reports, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Arizona Cardinals cornerback Josh Shaw Friday for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season. Shaw has been suspended for betting on league games on multiple instances this year.

Albert Breer has also reported that Shaw was found to have gambled on college football as well as college basketball also.

The five-year pro has not played a game in 2019 and is currently on injured reserve. He can file an appeal of the suspension within three days.

The NFL released a statement saying that the league’s investigation did not uncover any evidence that games were compromised or that inside info was used.

“The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league.  At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances. If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football.”

Commissioner Goodell, NFL

In the league’s gambling policy, the NFL has laid out that betting on football is one of their 10 restrictions on legal gambling.

“All NFL Personnel are prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or indirectly through a third-party, on any NFL game, practice or other event,” the policy states. “This includes betting on game outcome, statistics, score, performance of any individual participant, or any other kind of ‘proposition bet’ on which wagering is offered.”

Shaw, the former fourth round selection, can petition for reinstatement on or after Feb. 15, 2021, in the event that his possible appeal is denied. Shaw has made over $3 million in his playing career. Arizona signed him to one-year, $850,000 deal in March.
