12:22 p.m. ET.

3/26/22

6:50 p.m. ET.

  • Stetson head coach Lynn Bria badly wants the West Virginia job, but sources tell us she’s not really in the mix. Also, South Carolina assistant Fred Chmiel is no longer in the mix. On the other hand, we know that Boston College’s Joanna Bernabei-McNamee will be on campus in the comings days.

3/25/22

1:52 p.m. ET.

  • A name we keep hearing for Georgia is UCF head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. This is something to watch as things went very south with Georgia and their initial top target, Ole Miss’ Yolett MCuin-McPhee. Sources tell the Ball Out that when the Georgia players found out that Coach Yo would be the next head coach, they told the AD that they would all go into the portal as they didn’t want to play for Coach Yo!

1:48 p.m. ET

  • West Virginia interviewed interim head coach Nitra Perry this week, sources tell The Ball Out. The names we are hearing for this job are Boston College head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee and Stetson head coach Lynn Bria, who is on the outside looking in.
  • We will give more details to our Insiders on Georgia and Yolett McCuin-McPhee from Ole Miss. Late Wednesday night, Coach Yo had verbally agreed to take the job, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. It was a done deal; the only thing that needed to happen was signing the contract. Even AAU coaches in Georgia were calling around, saying she was going to be the next head coach. We break the news at noon on Thursday after talking to multiple sources, then later on in the day, something when awry with Yo and Georgia. A source told us that she was convinced not to take the job and backed out of the verbal agreement.

3/21/22

  • Sources tell The Ball Out that they expect Brooke Wyckoff to replace retiring head coach Sue Semrau

11:48 a.m ET.

  • Louisville Associate Head Coach Stephanie Norman is on campus today and is considered the frontrunner, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
  • As we mentioned weeks ago, Texas A&M was targeting Jeff Walz. However, A&M lowballed Walz so bad that he went back to Louisville to get an extension.
  • UNLV head coach Lindy La Rocque did speak with Arizona State but decided to pull her name out of the mix.
  • St. Louis preference is to hire a black coach, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • We believe that Texas will be firing one if not two assistants, sources tell The Ball Out.

3/15/22

1:19 p.m. ET.

  • Georgia head coach Joni Taylor is definitely in the mix for Texas A&M, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Syracuse is mad at Buffalo head coach Felicia Legette-Jack for letting it get out that she will be their next head coach. Supposedly a Buffalo player has been telling people that Legette-Jack will be Syracuse’s next head coach. Well, multiple sources tell The Ball Out that Marquette’s Megan Duffy is squarely in the mix at Syracuse!
  • Illinois would prefer to hire a black woman as their next head coach, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • We are hearing that Illinois is looking at Mox from Missouri State as well. Other names we have mentioned are Shauna Green (Dayton) and Megan Duffy (Marquette).

3/11/22

4:48 p.m. ET.

  • Oklahoma State announced this week that Jim Littell would not be back next year. The two names we are hearing right now are Grand Canyon’s Molly Miller and Missouri State head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton.
  • Another name that Texas A&M is looking at is Louisville’s Jeff Walz, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Texas A&M really wanted Vic Schaefer, but his 3M buyout from Texas is too big, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
  • This information stunned us somewhat, but Ole Miss Associate head coach Shay Robinson WILL NOT be back next year, sources tell The Ball Out. This is quite the development as Robinson was instrumental in getting Shakira Austin to Oxford.
  • FGCU head coach Karl Smesko was Mississippi State’s top target; however, he turned them down earlier this week, sources tell The Ball Out. Also, the Bulldogs have made their choice as next head coach, and it won’t be Doug Novak.
  • Ex-Arizona State head coach Charlie Turner-Thorne is pushing for Nikki Blue to be her replacement.

3/9/22

2:39 a.m. ET

2/21/22

3:21 a.m. ET.

  • We will have a special article coming out today about what schools are already looking to replace their current coach. Secret phone calls are being made, and we will reveal one of those schools in the article. Also, the transfer portal is heating up, too. We will have some updates on that, too! Keep refreshing this page!

2/17/22

11:10 p.m. ET.

  • Jordan Horston’s injury is not good, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. It’s not official yet, but we hear it’s not good.
  • There is some team dysfunction at Weber State, sources tell The Ball Out. Some of the coaching staff are very frustrated with the behavior of certain players.
  • Rutgers forward Awa Sidibe plans on transferring at season’s end, sources tell The Ball Out. However, we hear that she is interested in going back to Utah or near there.

2/12/22

1:44 a.m. ET.

  • There is immense pressure on Florida AD Scott Stricklin to promote Interim head coach Kelly Rae Finley, sources tell The Ball Out. We believe it will get done if it hasn’t already. What we are saying is that Stricklin might have told Finley that she will get the job, but that it will be announced at the end of the season.
  • Kentucky lost again on Thursday to go to 2-8 in the SEC which is 13th place! Look for an exodus of players leaving the program, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • One team that has really risen this year has been Tennessee. Based on what many sources tell The Ball Out, Kellie Harper is the one for the Lady Vols. No coach will say this publicly, but they didn’t respect/fear Holly Warlick. They liked her as a person, but they didn’t think she would ever get Tennesee back.
  • Syracuse interim head coach Vonn Read NEVER had a shot at keeping that job regardless of record, sources tell The Ball Out. As we mentioned before, we expect Felisha Legette-Jack to be the next head coach at Syracuse.
  • Pittsburgh head coach Lance White is definitely on the hot seat, sources tell The Ball Out.

2/4/22

3:17 a.m. ET.

  • As we have stated for a while, we have heard that Florida interim Kelly Rae Finley was in a prime position to become the next head coach at Florida. After her win against LSU, Gators ambassador Steve Spurrier took notice. And after tonight’s blowout against No. 7 Tennessee, Rae Finley has solidified herself as the top choice to be the next Gators head coach. Also, while no one will say it publicly, Florida is happy that Lavender Briggs is no longer on the team, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Now we are going to discuss coaches that are in serious trouble that we haven’t mentioned before: Jennifer Hoover (Wake Forest), Joe Tartamella (St. John’s), James Howard (Georgetown), Andrea Gorski (Bradley), Kyra Elzy (Kentucky), Tasha Pointer (UIC Chicago).
  • Duke has been struggling as of late, and many will assume it’s injuries, but there’s another layer to this: head coach Kara Lawson. What no one knows is that Lawson was LIVID she didn’t get the Tennessee job three years ago. So in turn, she took the Duke job with one goal: to become the next Lady Vols coach. Long story short, with Kellie Harper solidifying herself as head coach this year with a 19-2 start to the season, Lawson has become frustrated as she knows her ultimate plan has been squashed.

1/29/22

3:42 p.m. ET.

  • FGCU superstar Kierstan Bell is expected to be back by the season’s end, source tells The Ball Out on the condition of anonymity.
  • We are also hearing UConn superstar Paige Bueckers could leave school after next year and declare for the 2023 WNBA Draft.
  • And while Kansas is having a much improved year this year, we know for a fact that then AD Jeff Long was ready to fire Brandon Schneider, multiple sources close to the situation tell The Ball Out. Long reached out to Coach Yo at Ole Miss, Toyelle Wilson (SMU head coach but was the Michigan assistant at the time), and SEMO head coach Rheka Patterson.
  • Things are really bad at Mississippi State, far worse than many know, sources tell The Ball Out. And the common name that we continue to hear is Hayes. It seems like the Hayes’ sisters have been the main culprit of the drama that’s going on in Starkville.
  • Some people on Texas’ staff don’t want Rickea Jackson, sources tell The Ball Out. Some on the staff believe that she’s a diva and selfish.
  • One WNBA coach we spoke with said that Kierstan Bell’s stock has dropped after the announcement of her knee injury. Some were already skeptical of Bell prior to her injury.
  • Mississippi State star Rickea Jackson has hit the transfer portal, which we reported would happen weeks ago. First, however, we will reveal what led to her hitting the portal officially. Jackson was unhappy with the environment at Mississippi State for a while, but things came to a head after the Ole Miss game. Jackson and Anastasia Hayes got into a physical altercation in the bathroom — it was a real fight! That fight was enough for Jackson to enter the portal finally. Also, to remember, this is Hayes’ third school as she was dismissed from Tennessee, then transferred from Middle Tennessee State after playing one year.

1/25/22

12:51 p.m. ET.

  • As we mentioned a while back, Clemson head coach Amanda Butler was on the hot seat, and she’s feeling the pressure. Star guard Gabby Elliott has decided to transfer, and grad transfer Kiara Lewis is no longer with the program. This could be a domino effect as we wouldn’t be surprised if the top-15 recruit in 2022, Ruby Whitehorn, asks for her release.
  • Tina Thompson is done at Virginia, sources continue to tell The Ball Out.
  • Florida interim coach is having quite the success this year. There are MANY coaches eyeing this job, but she’s doing so well, she has a shot at keeping the job.
  • We will be doing an article on the real reason why Rickea Jackson left Mississippi State later today.

1/16/22

2:31 p.m. ET.

  • Things are going REAL BAD at Wisconsin for Marisa Mosely; they are 3-12 and 0-5 in the conference. But, if things don’t improve, don’t be surprised if Mosely is on the hot seat next year in only her second year.
  • Jobs to watch out for in the Big 10 are Michigan State, Illinois, and Minnesota, sources tell The Ball Out. All three could become open at season’s end.
  • There’s starting to be some chatter behind-the-scenes that Georgia State head coach might not survive after this season. Being that’s he’s in downtown Atlanta, a hotbed for recruiting, and still not having success, that’s a bad look.
  • Vic Schaefer was livid at his assistant coaches after their loss to Kansas the other day. Not only that, Schaefer blamed his assistants for Texas.

1/15/22

2:48 a.m. ET.

  • Texas was disrespectful to Kansas on Wednesday during their shootaround, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. While the Jayhawks were at shootaround, the Longhorns’ came onto the court while Kansas was finishing up and started stretching! Needless to say, that made the Jayhawks’ players and coaching staff angry, which was the spark that caused Kansas to upset No. 13 Texas.
  • Amanda Butler is on a SERIOUS HOT SEAT at Clemson! We don’t expect her to be back next year unless things improve dramatically!
  • Baylor is now 0-2 in the Big 12, and people in the industry think Nikki Collen is overrated, like seriously overrated, sources tell The Ball Out.

1/9/22

10:13 p.m. ET.

  • A name to watch for Texas A&M is Louisville head coach Jeff Walz, sources tell The Ball Out. Walz doesn’t like his current AD, and we know that the Aggies’ administration likes Walz. Also, watch for Walz to Texas if Vic Schaefer takes the A&M job.

1/8/22

2:57 a.m. ET.

  • Arkansas and Tennessee played last weekend, and it was evident that the Razorbacks’ game plan was to rough up the Lady Vols. First, a clip went viral where an Arkansas player hit Tamari Key in the face. Well, one of the coaches from Tennessee tweeted out the clip, and it made Razorbacks head coach Mike Neighbors livid, sources tell The Ball Out. Also, there is some bad blood as Arkansas assistant Lacey Goldwire was FIRED by Tennessee last year — and she wasn’t happy about it at all and left on BAD terms.
  • MANY coaches spoke with us the past week regarding Geno Auriemma’s comments towards Muffet McGraw. And it was a consensus: “Auriemma was wrong!” Sources tell us that he’s lost A LOT of respect in the industry.

1/3/22

3:14 a.m ET.

  • Kansas has head their last two games because of a serious Covid-19 outbreak within their program, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Eight players, a manager, a trainer, and an assistant coach have all tested positive.
  • This update is on the WNBA, specifically the New York Liberty. Walt Hopkins was abruptly fired after his second year as head coach with the Liberty. This move caught many people off-guard. However, through our network of sources, we have been able to narrow down as to why. It’s one of two things, multiple sources tell The Ball Out Insider: a run-in with Layshia Clarendon and/or issues with other players on the team. We are going to keep digging to find out all the details.
  • Now, let’s talk about Liberty rookie Sabrina Ionescu. Her work ethic and leadership have been questioned in the WNBA, sources tell The Ball Out. She’s not the first in the gym but is one of the first to leave; a source just told The Ball Out. One example is that a coach wanted to help her improve her game, and she just brushed it off. Ionescu attempted to get one of her former assistant coaches from Oregon hired with the Liberty; however, the Liberty rebuffed it.
  • The situation behind-the-scenes with Texas A&M and Vic Schaefer is getting even more traction that no one outside of The Ball Out Insiders knows about. We are hearing that one of the main boosters pushing to get Schaefer is not only a billionaire; he happens to be Schaefer’s best friend! So there is NO way a booster with those kinds of pockets is getting involved unless Schaefer has told him that he will come to A&M. The billionaire booster is willing to pay Schaefer’s substantial buyout from Texas to bring him “home.”

12/27/21

11:46 p.m. ET.

  • As you all have seen, Muffet McGraw called out ESPN for their UConn bias. She also ripped the overhype of UConn players. And trust us, MANY coaches feel the same say, but never said so publicly. We are hearing from many coaches who feel that Geno Auriemma is overrated; moreover, they say if he doesn’t have a transformational, generational talent, he’s a pretty mediocre coach.
  • As we have stated multiple times in the past, Kelly Bond will not be the next head coach at Texas A&M. Multiple sources continued to tell The Ball Out that she had no shot of being the Aggies’ head coach regardless of the narrative publicly that she would be. One person who believed that Bond would get the position was Gary Blair. However, multiple sources have informed The Ball Out that Texas A&M’s administration has informed Blair that they will not consider Bond. This is why Blair finally decided to retire this year, as he kept delaying his retirement to force the Aggies’ administration hand. Ultimately, however, they called his bluff and will pay him $3M to be Emeritus.

12/24/21

9:25 p.m. ET.

  • With Cindy Stein retiring at year’s end at Southern Illinois, many have assumed that Jody Adams-Birch would be the next head coach. However, multiple sources tell The Ball Out that there are reservations within Southern Illinois’ administration regarding Birch. It stems from her behavior during her tenure with the program from 2004-07. A name to watch is Drury men’s basketball assistant Chris Carr, who could replace Stein. Carr played in the NBA, is an alum, and was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Kansas State for the 2020-21 season. Carr is going hard after Southern Illinois, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
  • We have a huge update on Texas A&M that we will reveal after Christmas!

12/20/21

6:18 p.m. ET.

  • There are starting to be rumblings that Illinois head coach Nancy Fahey could be in trouble as the Fighting Illini is off to another bad start this year. One source tells The Ball Out that assistant coach Corry Irvin could be her possible replacement.

12/14/21

11:50 p.m. ET.

  • A LOT to get into in this update, so get you a cup of tea and enjoy 🙂 Also, keep refreshing this page because things are getting hot!
  • Vic Schaefer is not happy with his two new assistants: Calamity McEntire and April Phillips, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Schaefer has complained about both privately and has no plans to bring them with him to Texas A&M if he gets that job, and yes, as we mentioned before, he wants the Aggies job!
  • This leads us to this next point, multiple sources continue to tell us that Kelly Bond will not be the next head coach at Texas A&M.
  • Despite her recent struggles, Robin Pingeton is safe at Missouri, especially after the Tigers got shellacked by in-state rival Missouri State.

12/7/21

10:43 p.m. ET.

  • Texas PG Ashley Chevalier announced her decision to transfer today. And multiple sources tell us that she was not a fan of head coach Vic Schaefer AT ALL! As a matter of fact, we want you all to look at her announcement on social media. She mentions former Texas head coach Karen Aston, the previous staff but made NO MENTION of Schaefer and the current staff.

12/6/21

1:20 a.m. ET.

  • Many people believe that Kelly Bond at Texas A&M is going to be the next coach after Gary Blair retires. Multiple sources tell The Ball Out they do not believe Bond will be the next head coach, this is something to keep watching.

12/4/21

1:15 p.m. ET.

  • People around the Maryland program believe the assistant coaches are terrible and that’s really hurting Brenda Frese. Sources tell The Ball Out, her assistants don’t do any coaching and aren’t helping her out.

12/3/21

11:30 p.m. ET.

  • With Clemson’s AD, Dan Radakovich, stepping down to take the Miami AD position, this is bad news for Amanda Butler who is already on thin ice. Look for Amanda Butler to not survive after this season.

12/3/21

12:43 a.m. ET.

  • Get ready! Updates will be coming A LOT, so make sure you are refreshing this page!
  • It’s early in the season, but Marquette head coach Megan might be having some regrets. Why you might ask? It’s because she turned down the Baylor this past spring when it was offered to her. She was allegedly offered $1M annually, but for some odd reason she said no and turned it down.
  • With their season off to a horrendous start, Butler head coach Kurt Godlevske is on a scorching hot seat.
  • Former ETSU head coach Brittney Ezell is living her best life after getting fired from ETSU last season. And multiple sources tell The Ball Out that she is thoroughly enjoying the struggles of ETSU this year. The Buccaneers are off to a horrid start at 1-6.

11/27/21

7:01 p.m. ET.

  • We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving week; now, let’s get to some updates!
  • BYU is off to a hot start this year, as they just beat two ranked teams this week in #17 Florida State and #22 West Virginia. Head coach Jeff Judkins has been seriously contemplating retirement, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. However, we are hearing that he might push off retirement for a while.
  • Oregon head coach Kelly Graves has lost some respect from his peers for not playing FGCU this year. Graves stated on Twitter that the Ducks needed a game earlier in the summer, and when FGCU offered to play him, Graves declined. Being that Graves came from a mid-major in Gonzaga, he lost some respect for choosing not to play FGCU.
  • TCU head coach Raegan Pebley is on a serious hot seat, and if things don’t improve, she will be fired, sources tell The Ball Out.

11/22/21

10:40 a.m. ET.

  • Virginia is off to a horrid start this season as they are now 0-4. With that being said, expect Tina Thompson to be fired after the year. As we reported in the Insider earlier this year, Virginia’s administration attempted to force Thompson to step down last year, but she didn’t. Therefore, we don’t expect Thompson to survive after this season.
  • Ex-Kentucky head coach Matthew Mitchell is ALL IN on going after the Florida job, sources tell The Ball Out.

11/18/21

11:35 a.m. ET.

  • West Virginia head coach Mike Carey has his eyes on the Texas A&M job, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Also, sources say that they don’t believe Carey will be renewed when his contract is up in two years.

11/16/21

1:34 p.m. ET.

  • Sources tell us that they believe that Raegan Pebley (TCU) and Jeff Mittie (Kansas State) are on a massive hot seat and believe they will all be fired at season’s end.

11/14/21

2:41 p.m. ET.

  • As you all know, Gary Blair is retiring at season’s end, something we first reported before anyone else. While he’s retiring, many inside the industry believe that Kelly Bond will be the one to replace him. However, we aren’t so sure about that. As a matter of fact, multiple sources tell us that Blair in the past would always say that Jeff Walz would be a homerun hire to replace him, not Bond. Ironically, last year, Vic Schaefer did something similar in not giving his full ringing endorsement for Johnnie Harris in her pursuit of Mississippi State. Because of that, Schaefer was able to bring Harris with him to Texas, which was what he wanted the whole time.

11/12/21

12 p.m. ET.

Former Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell has his eyes on the Florida job, sources tell The Ball Out.

11/10/21

8:37 p.m. ET.

  • Earlier this week, we report that Kansas star center Taiyanna Jackson was diagnosed with Mono. Well, yesterday, she took another test and she passed, so she is playing tonight for Kansas, sources tell The Ball Out.

11/7/21

11:31 a.m. ET.

  • Vanderbilt lost to Tennessee State yesterday, sources tell The Ball Out. To put this in perspective Tennessee State was THE WORST team in the nation last year as they LOST EVERY game! They went 0-22! This was a TERRIBLE scrimmage loss and shows Vanderbilt has A LONG way to go in their rebuild!

11/5/21

8:15 p.m. ET.

  • Breaking: Kansas star center Taiyanna Jackson has been diagnosed with Mono, sources tell The Ball Out. She could be out the next month.

2:13 a.m. ET.

  • As you all know, Nikki McCray stepped down as head coach at Mississippi State in August. But what you all didn’t know is that McCray had been suspended at Mississippi State, sources tell The Ball Out. Sources also tell us her cancer did come back as well which is very sad to hear.

10/28/21

10:47 a.m. ET.

  • With the season around the corner, there’s A LOT that we know we will be hearing when it comes to players looking to transfer, coaching changes, and more. So make sure, you refresh this page A LOT!
  • As we mentioned first on April 21 that we were hearing Gary Blair would be retiring, well today it became official. We know for a fact that Texas A&M had been pushing for Blair to retire for the past couple of years. The initial name we are hearing to replace him is Kelly Bond-White, sources tell The Ball Out. However, there will be more.

10/25/21

9:13 a.m. ET.

  • South Carolina has a very loaded roster, but many sources believe they could have the most turnover this offseason. That will be something to watch throughout the season.
  • NC State and Tennessee had a secret scrimmage yesterday.

10/12/21

12:30 a.m. ET.

  • Kansas head coach Brandon Schenider is entering the final year of his contract, and he’s on a serious hot seat, might be the hottest seat in the country, sources tell The Ball Out. Ironically, the administration at Kansas really likes Associate head coach Terry Nooner. Nooner is a Kansas alum and is well liked. Don’t be surprised to see that if Kansas moves off of Schenider that they seriously consider Nooner.
  • Texas A&M DESPERATELY wants to move on from Gary Blair, like REALLY DESPARATELY! However, with Blair have so much success last year, the administration could not force him out. But this is still a situation to watch, because we KNOW FOR SURE that they have wanted to move off of Blair for the past two seasons.
  • A name to watch for the Florida opening is UCF head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, sources tell The Ball Out.

10/9/21

5:09 p.m. ET.

For the next few days, we’re going to be answering questions about the happenings in women’s college basketball from our Insiders. If you have a question, email us as we will be answering questions for the next few days.

10/5/21

9/28/21

11:14 p.m. ET.

  • Earlier this week, an article came out regarding Cam Newbauer and his alleged abuse of players during his tenure at Florida. Remember, we gave you all a heads up that he did something very bad, and this was it. As an Insider, you will always be IN THE KNOW! Cam REALLY MESSED UP!

9/25/21

12:38 p.m. ET

  • Here is REAL reason Jody Wynn was fired from Washington! It wasn’t because of the win-loss record, even though it was atrocious, it was because she breaking NCAA rules regarding practice limits. While rules state that you can only do 3.5 hours of basketball activity a day, she was doing up to 8 hours a day! This led to a multitude of injuries. This angered their AD, who was determined to get to the bottom of it. She called everyone to the carpet and their trainer finally blew the whistle. The AD still fired the trainer for not reporting this sooner.
  • Multiple sources reached out to us last week questioning what’s going on with Nikki McCray-Penson at Mississippi State. Those same sources reiterate to us that if things go badly for McCray-Penson, she might not survive and make it to a third year.

9/21/21

2:41 p.m. ET.

  • Arizona State head coach Charli Turner-Thorne is supposedly on the hot seat, sources tell The Ball Out. The administration respects her enough that they are floating the idea of her retiring gracefully.

9/19/21

5:02 p.m. ET.

  • Nikki McCray lost another assistant recently and just named M.L. Willis to replace that assistant. McCray, while she is only going into her second year, is on a hot seat. If this year is as bad as last year, she might get let go after the season.

9/16/21

6:06 p.m. ET:

  • Last week, Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp stepped down as head coach. We had this in our Insider on August 21st 🙂 You will ALWAYS have the inside scoop as a The Ball Out Insider. This is just the start when it comes to coaching changes. We have heard from multiple high level sources that this year will be WAY more active when it comes to coaching changes than even last year.

9/15/21

2:03 a.m. ET:

  • Another name that Florida has their eye on is Old Dominion’s Delisha Milton-Jones. The ex-Gator great has a mutual interest in going back to her Alma Mater, sources tell The Ball Out. Now, we believe Florida is going to go hard after Becky Hammon, but watch out for Milton-Jones, too!
  • Jacksonville head coach Darnell Haney is on the hot seat this season, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • We are also hearing that Amanda Butler could be on a hot seat as well at Clemson.

9/7/21

3:07 a.m. ET:

  • As we mentioned in our Recruiting Insider a while back that Aquira DeCosta would not be playing for Sacramento State as Mark Campbell had hoped. She is now at Shawnee State.
  • With the season around the corner, Athletic Directors are already starting to plan ahead regarding potential coaching changes. One name we keep hearing that is on a serious hot seat: Virginia’s Tina Thompson.

9/3/21

3:07 p.m. ET:

  • Moon Ursin has had a busy offseason. The ex-Baylor guard transferred to LSU to supposedly play for her former head coach, Kim Mulkey. Well, the other day, Ursin decided to enter the transfer portal again. Don’t be surprised to see Ursin end up at Tulane, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

9/2/21

11:06 a.m. ET:

  • We will have information on where we are hearing Moon Ursin will transfer to later today or early tomorrow.
  • On a sadder note, it was announced that Kevin Morrison has been diagnosed with Stage 5 Early Onset Alzheimer’s last week. We posted in the Insider on August 10th that we heard he had a terminal disease. Make sure to reach out to his family as they need all the positive well wishes and support!

8/31/21:

3:17 a.m. ET.

  • BYU head coach Jeff Judkins contemplated retiring in the next year or two; however, he’s feeling rejuvenated and has no plans of retiring in the next few years.
  • We are getting ready to put out the names we are hearing on the hot seat. First-year Tulsa head coach Angie Nelp has gotten off to a TERRIBLE start, and she hasn’t coached her first game yet.
  • 2 coaches we are hearing are on the HOTTEST of seats: Cal’s Charmin Smith and Virginia’s Tina Thompson.
  • Even though she’s only in her second year, Missippi State’s Nikki McCray-Penson needs to have a really good year.

8/29/21:

3:39 a.m. ET.

  • As we mentioned last night, something is amiss at Colorado State and Ryun Williams. We will elaborate more. About a month ago, quietly, his assistant Kellie Lewis was no longer on staff. This is very odd timing, and then things took a turn. Lewis took an assistant’s job at San Diego State last week, which is not even a lateral move. What’s even odder about that decision is that San Diego State head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson is on a serious hot seat, and she will be fired after the season if she doesn’t have a breakthrough this year. So, back to Williams, he’s having a VERY HARD time finding a new assistant. Coupled with the fact that Lewis chose to go into a situation where it’s a strong possibility she could get fired at year’s end, it makes you wonder if there is some turmoil at Colorado State?

8/28/21:

2:11 a.m. ET.

  • Something is amiss at Colorado State. We will explain more later today.

8/25/21:

12:14 a.m. ET.

  • The name of the assistant coach that is no longer on Ryun Williams’ staff at Colorado State is Kellie Lewis, sources tell The Ball Out. Sources tell us that it was roughly about two weeks ago when Lewis was no longer on staff. Williams is still having trouble finding her replacement.
  • Alabama head coach Kristy Curry has been hearing from coaches who would like to replace ex-Crimson Tide assistant Tiffany Coppage. And while she has heard from many coaches, Curry has her mind already made up on who that person will be, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Also, an update on former Denver assistant coach Shelley Sheetz. She is now working at Amazon and is keeping her options open when it comes to coaching, sources tell The Ball Out. Many sources have told us about how Sheetz did not enjoy her experience while at Denver last year.

8/23/21:

9:27 p.m. ET.

  • Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams is really struggling to find a new assistant, sources tell The Ball Out.

8/21//21:

4:33 p.m. ET

8/20/21:

12:16 a.m. ET.

  • As you all know Insiders, we first reported that Alabama recruiting coordinator Tiffany Coppage was no longer a part of the program. Well, we have found out that there was a serious falling out with Coppage and Alabama, sources tell The Ball Out. We have also heard today that Coppage was the one to end the relationship. We will have a lot more this in the morning, so keep refreshing this page!

8/19/21:

12:53 a.m. ET.

8/17/21:

12:27 p.m. ET.

  • Supposedly things are not going well at the University of Denver, and there is friction on staff, sources tell The Ball Out. David Pennewell was demoted from assistant coach to Director of Basketball Operations after he was trying to find a way to leave. Earlier this summer, Shelley Sheetz stepped down, telling a source that she was unhappy and didn’t enjoy her experience at Denver. It was so bad, Sheetz told a source that she might not coach again.
  • Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams is looking for an assistant coach but has not had any luck finding a replacement. Everyone he has asked has turned him down, sources tell The Ball Out.

8/16/21:

2:46 a.m. ET.

  • Tulsa assistant coach Dodie Dunson has been quietly looking for an exit strategy to leave Tulsa, sources tell The Ball Out. Similar to when Jackie Stiles left the program, Dunson is not happy with the current situation and has privately complained about the head coach, Angie Nelp.
  • We are going to be doing a “Coaches Hot Seat” post almost every week going forward. The first one we are going to mention is Virginia head coach Tina Thompson. Right now, on a scale of 1-10 that she will NOT return for the 2022-23 season: 10, sources told The Ball Out.
  • For Insiders with the “Combo” VIP subscription, which is The Ball Out Insider and The Ball Out Recruiting Insider, you can always email us a question about what’s happening in women’s college basketball, and we will answer it for you.

8/15/21:

3:36 a.m ET.

  • Remember when we 1st reported that Cam Newbauer was in trouble at Florida and then a couple of days later, he “resigned” for personal reasons. Well, the potential REAL reason he stepped down is NOT GOOD based on what a source told The Ball Out last Saturday night!

8/12/21:

5:42 p.m. ET

  • We are hearing some bad things regarding Angie Nelp at Tulsa. She hasn’t gotten off to a great start, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Remember when Quentin Hillsman stepped down as Syracuse’s coach, and we immediately stated that Felisha Legette-Jack was the frontrunner to replace Hillsman? Well, guess who Syracuse has decided to retire their jersey?

8/10/21:

3:40 p.m. ET.

  • Sad news: former college basketball assistant, Kevin Morrison, who worked at Cal, Washington, Georgia Tech, and San Diego State has a terminal disease similar to dementia, sources tell The Ball Out. So for the coaches or fans that know Kevin, reach out to his family, your words of encouragement are needed!

8/4/21:

5 p.m. ET

  • We are working on a story about a head coach that could be in some serious trouble for player mistreatment. We will let our Insiders know first once we have this confirmed. But another head coach could be losing their job soon because of player mistreatment, sources tell The Ball Out.

8/3/21:

10:48 a.m. ET

  • Another source has just told us that they are also hearing Felisha Legette-Jack in connection with Syracuse, so we shall see. We do know that Legette-Jack has badly wanted the Syracuse job for a while now. Another source just told The Ball Out, they feel that this will go down after the season.
  • One thing the public doesn’t know regarding Quentin Hillsman’s situation was the beef that he had with one of the most powerful voices in the AAU circuit: FBC Director Alfred Motton. For the coaches that are Insiders, YOU KNOW how powerful Motton has become and how much he charges for his “recruiting packets.” And if you don’t pay, he’s not going to be happy. We will elaborate on this at a further date, Hillsman felt he didn’t have to pay Motton for his packets, and Motton was furious at Hillsman. Fast forward to when 6-foot-7 freshman star Kamilla Cardoso decided to transfer, which was the transfer that really caused people to look at what was going wrong in Hillsman’s program. Guess what AAU team Cardoso played for? FBC.

8/2/21:

6:29 p.m. ET

  • Syracuse head coach Quintin Hillsman resigned today and was able to keep $3.2M. Also, look for Buffalo head coach Felisha Legette-Jack to be a top candidate for this job, sources tell The Ball Out.

7/27/21:

4:42 p.m. ET.

  • Florida is planning on throwing the “Brinks” truck at Becky Hammon once the season is over, sources tell The Ball Out. She is their top target for next head coach. Florida feels like they dropped the ball the last time around with her by not offering enough money, this time, they plan for that not to be the case.

7/25/21:

8:27 p.m. ET:

  • UCLA’s Cori Close was VERY close to taking the Oklahoma job, sources tell The Ball Out. She came much closer to taking it from what we have been told.
  • Florida interim head coach Kelly Rae Finley has become upset with what she feels are coaches tampering with Florida players, sources tell The Ball Out. Sources also state that she might start reporting those coaches.

7/23/21:

4:08 p.m. ET.

  • Regarding Cam Newbauer’s abrupt resignation as we reported first that he was in some serious trouble on July 15. Multiple sources tell The Ball Out that there is allegedly much more to this story than him resigning for “family reasons.” We have heard a couple of things, and we will let you know more once it’s concrete.
  • BYU star Shaylee Gonzales was recruiting hard by Stanford this offseason, but ultimately decided to stay at BYU, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Also, if you want access to our Recruiting Insider, make sure to email us! It’s the hottest thing going right now in women’s basketball as so many people have requested access to The Recruiting Insider.

7/17/21:

6:34 a.m. ET:

  • As we reported on the Insider a couple of days ago that Florida’s Cam Newbauer was in serious trouble as it was announced yesterday that he “resigned.” Multiple sources tell The Ball Out that he didn’t really resign, he was forced out. We will get into what we know another day.

7/15/21:

9:45 p.m. ET:

  • Baylor has offered their last assistant’s job to Chloe Pavelich. Pavelich played at Maryland and most recently has been a social media content creator for Overtime. Pavelich is mulling the offer, sources tell The Ball Out.

10:52 a.m. ET:

  • We are hearing that Cam Newbauer is in serious trouble at Florida, sources tell The Ball Out. We will keep you posted.
  • Also, we are going to be launching The Ball Out Recruiting Insider that will have all the rumors, news, and insight on recruits all over the country before it becomes public. So, if you want to have the edge on recruiting, email us to get access.

6/23/21:

  • With things starting to pick up, especially in the recruiting world, make sure to keep refreshing this page and a flurry of updates will be coming!
  • On that note, one of the top prospects in the 2023 class, 5-star Olivia McGhee, visited Tennessee yesterday on an unofficial visit. From what we are hearing, the visit went very good. This recruit is definitely someone to watch!

11:32 p.m. ET.

  • Cherie Cordoba will be the next assistant at Wake Forest, she was formerly at LSU.
  • Also, we will be having A LOT of exclusive information with coaches going on the recruiting trail in the next couple of weeks!

6/10/21:

12:56 p.m. ET.

  • Could San Diego head coach Cindy Fisher be in some trouble? Yes, according to sources who spoke with The Ball Out. Behind the scenes, we are hearing that some former players and coaches are accusing Fisher of abuse and potential racist behavior. We will keep you posted on this development!
  • Wyoming coach Gerald Mattinson is retiring after this season, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • To circle back to San Diego, assistant coach Jasmin Holliday is leaving to go to San Jose State, sources tell The Ball Out.

6/2/21:

1:11 p.m. ET.

  • Guess which player was very close to leaving? Big 10 Player of the Year Naz Hillmon. The drama on Kim Barnes Arico’s staff this year almost caused her to transfer. Also, there’s so much more of what happened at Michigan that we can’t even put in the Insider right now, but if you want to know, email us!
  • As we reported weeks ago, Cal’s Charmin Smith is on a serious hot seat! She was “told” to change her staff which is a very bad sign when the AD tells you to bring in a new staff. One of the names she is hiring is former Cal player Eliza Pierre.

5/28/21:

1:09 a.m. ET:

  • Oklahoma State point guard Ja’Mee Asberry is transferring in-conference to Baylor, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. She announced publicly tonight on Instagram that she was transferring but not to where. Insiders are getting the information of what we are hearing first!

5/24/21:

3:39 p.m. ET:

  • Baylor’s Nikki Collen has hired a high school coach as an assistant, sources tell The Ball Out. Her first hire was Tari Cummings who she worked with at Arkansas.
  • One school that has a lot of turnover when it came to assistants was Michigan. Multiple sources tell The Ball Out that Kim Barnes-Arico was telling people that she planned on firing all 3 assistants. That’s why you saw all three leave so quickly. Some of those assistants really couldn’t stand working for Barnes-Arico.

5/23/21:

12:58 p.m. ET:

  • Update coming either later on today or tomorrow. Keep refreshing this page 🙂

5/21/21:

1:54 a.m. ET:

  • Another update on the way!

5/15/21:

9:09 pm. ET.

  • Our Adia Barnes and Lindsay Gottlieb column is up! And our Insiders get to see it first! It has so much that you won’t see anywhere else. Click here to read it.

9:52 a.m. ET.

  • Good morning, Insiders! Today, you all will get the first look at our column on how Adia Barnes and Lindsay Gottlieb beat their respective schools in negotiations! What we will say before the column is released to our Insiders first is that USC was turned down THREE times by other coaches before they got Gottlieb!
  • Also, starting next week, we will be giving you all more insight on some rumors already when it comes to college coaches. We will also start giving you all some recruiting info, too.
  • Soon, we will start sharing rumors and news regarding the WNBA!

5/14/21:

2:12 p.m. ET.

  • Multiple sources have told The Ball Out that Sytia Messer will be joining Kim Mulkey’s staff at LSU.

5/13/21:

6:40 p.m. ET

  • We are finishing up this amazing account of how Adia Barnes and Lindsay Gottlieb were able to dominate their negotiations with their respective universities — it’s good, and you all are going to know it first!
  • Over the course of the next few weeks and months, we are going to let you know what coaches are definitely on the hot seat. The first one we are going to discuss is Virginia and Tina Thompson. Virginia has attempted to convince Thompson to step down as coach, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Thompson has rebuffed those overtures because it would mean she wouldn’t get the remaining money on her contract. There is definitely friction, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Thompson doesn’t make it past this year at Virginia.

10:39 a.m. ET.

  • Keep refreshing the page; we have some things we are hearing that we will be posting today. However, first, we are going to go over how USC got Lindsay Gottlieb.

5/12/21:

6 p.m ET:

  • We have A LOT to share with you all Insiders, so keep refreshing this page!

5/11/21:

8:31 p.m. ET:

  • Yesterday, newly Ohio State Wesley Brooks made it official of his move from Mississippi State to the Buckeyes. Bulldogs head coach Nikki McCray is not too happy about it either. Brooks’ main complaint to sources was that McCray worked him too hard, which is a unique perspective since he was there for 3 weeks.
  • This next one is for YOU! For everyone that’s an Insider, especially coaches and women’s basketball staff, we are going to give you 24 hours to email us any questions that you would like to know in the world of women’s basketball.
  • Also, the REAL news happens in the offseason — especially when to comes to coaches on the hot seat and coaches that WILL be fired. Athletic Directors make moves behind-the-scenes in the offseason and tells the public know at the conclusion of the season. Like, we know a school in the SEC and ACC that’s planning on firing the coach next year.

5/10/21:

10:27 p..m. ET:

  • Now, here’s the story of what led Kim Mulkey to start thinking about leaving Baylor. As we stated in the post last night, the animosity between Mulkey and Baylor AD Mack Rhoades started almost immediately when Rhoades arrived. At the first Waco Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Rhoades was first to speak. And there’s been this big situation on what to do with the arena, the Ferrell Center. Was it time to build or new arena or renovate the Ferrell Center? Rhoades tells the audience that they don’t have the money so things were on pause on what to do. Well, Mulkey basically calls BS on that statement, gets up, and starts telling the crowd and supporters to dig deep in those pockets and find a way to get it done. Rhoades became INSENSED and confronted Mulkey on usurping his message. And if you know ANYTHING about Mulkey, she doesn’t let ANYONE boss her around! Well, Rhoades went a step further and attempted to cut her budget. Things got so bad that when Mulkey went back to Baylor with the offer from LSU, Rhoades decline to counteroffer, wow! Soon, we will get into who is the coach that turned down Baylor which forced them to go after Nicki Collen.

1:40 p.m. ET:

  • As we mentioned in the Insider in late April, USC had targeted Cavs assistant, Lindsay Gottlieb for their head coaching position. Then on April 30th, she had turned them down. Well, after USC was turned down by their top choice (we believe it was Sue Semrau), USC went back to Gottleib and offered her WAY more money, which led them to getting the deal down. On top of that, things within the Cavs’ organization are bad, to say the least!

11:02 a.m. ET:

  • USC lost out on their top choice on Friday, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. We think it was Sue Semrau from FSU. We also know that USC reached out to Joni Taylor. A name to watch could be Cal Baptist head coach Jarrod Olson.

5/10/21:

1:23 a.m. ET:

  • It is now Monday, and for everyone that’s an Insider, we have some GREAT updates for you. There’s so much that has happened and things that are on the horizon that you all are going to know so much more than others!
  • Later on today, we will give you the REAL story of why Kim Mulkey is at LSU as well as share with you about Baylor’s search and how Nikki Collen wasn’t their first choice; moreover, how they were in complete shock when a certain coach they offered the job to said no to them.
  • USC is having trouble landing its top choices, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
  • There are a lot of coaches going into next year on the hot seat, some don’t even know, but if you thought this year was something, next year could even be more unpredictable with firings. As we know through our network of contacts, there are some ADs already looking ahead for their next coach. We will be revealing them over the next few weeks and months!
  • Ex-Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell has his eyes on Florida, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Mitchell DID NOT want to stop coaching last year at all — and felt he could!
  • We will soon be sharing recruiting information that NO ONE else has!

5/9/21:

9:43 p.m. ET:

  • Texas and Mississippi State are both recruiting Baylor Associate Head Coach Sytia Messer to their respective staffs, sources tell The Ball Out.

5/8/21:

12:11 a.m. ET.

  • On Monday, we will give you what REALLY happened between Baylor and Kim Mulkey; moreover, how bad the tension was between Mulkey and Baylor AD Mack Rhoades. It all started when Rhoades first arrived at his first C of C luncheon. It got bad! Look for the details on Monday!

5/7/21:

10:27 p.m. ET.

  • UCLA Associate Head Coach Shannon Perry-LeBeauf has been eliminated by USC as a candidate for their head coaching position, a source tells The Ball Out. also, this source says that “they don’t have a clue on what they want!” WOW, what a quote!

2:51 p.m. ET.

  • USC is winding down its search, and as we stated yesterday, it’s ALL over the place. However, things have really picked up steam since last night! Keep refreshing this page!

12:31 a.m. ET.

  • USC’s search is ALL OVER the place. Sunday they entered into negotiations with an agent that went into the early part of the week only for those negotiations to break down. Now, it looks like they are going in another direction and that’s another why it’s lasted so long.
  • Guess who was another name that Baylor targeted: newly hired Washington coach Tina Langley, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Also, Adia Barnes was very involved in the Baylor search and that’s why Arizona renegotiated her contract again.

5/5/21:

10:21 p.m. ET.

  • Another name that has been brought to our attention for USC is current South Dakota coach Dawn Plitzuweit. Things are getting very interesting at USC!
  • We still can’t reveal who the coach was that turned down the Baylor job just yet; however, we can say that the coach turned down a 7-year deal that would pay $1M annually. WOW!

10:20 a.m. ET.

  • Some other surprising names have pursued the USC opening: FSU head coach Sue Semrau and LA Sparks assistant Fred Williams, who is also pursuing the Atlanta Dream opening, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Also, UCLA assistant Shannon Perry is another name going after Trojans head coaching job.

5/4/21:

1:09 p.m. ET.

  • Quick update on USC: some surprising names could be involved like Curt Miller, Aaron Johnston, and Scott Rueck, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

12:25 p.m.

  • USC’s hire is imminent per a very reliable source. This source states that the hire is a name that’s hasn’t been publicly talked about as this source spoke with the agent who is negotiating the contract.

1:49 a.m. ET:

  • This next update is quite interesting, and when we heard this, we were definitely surprised. Newly hired Mississippi State assistant Wesley Brooks, who was announced on April 13th, is planning on leaving to become an assistant coach at Ohio State, sources tell The Ball Out. We are shocked by this one!

5/3/21:

7:30 p.m. ET:

  • As you all know, Baylor has named WNBA head coach Nikki Collen as their next head coach. HOWEVER, you won’t believe how she got the job. Let’s just say this for now: she was the fallback option as the job was offered to someone else, and that person turned it down, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

5/2/21:

8:49 p.m. ET.

  • Quick update on Baylor: Adia Barnes met with Baylor late last week, a source tells The Ball Out. We also believe that Jeff Walz met with them as well. On the 29th, we were the first to mention Molly Miller being involved with Baylor, and that has not changed as she was set to interview with them in the past day or two. Sources tell The Ball Out that Miller was “nervous” heading into such a big interview. Marquette head coach Megan Duffy is still involved as well.
  • Texas is looking for another assistant to replace Elena Lovato, who is getting out of the profession altogether, sources tell The Ball Out. For all the assistants that are a part of our Insider, if you are interested in the position, email us, and we can point you in the right direction.
  • In the world of recruiting, the one program we heard got the best reviews during the first AAU weekend since the pandemic: Tennessee.
  • Outside of Hannah Gusters, we are hearing that the other players at Baylor don’t plan on leaving as they want to prove that they don’t need Kim Mulkey to win.
  • Source told us that Nikki Collen could be an option as things aren’t going well for her and the Atlanta Dream. We don’t know how plausible that is, but that’s a name a source has thrown out for Baylor.

5/1/21:

8:58 p.m. ET.

  • Former Tennessee assistant coach Lacey Goldwire is headed back to Arkansas, sources tell The Ball Out. We will get into it another day, but things ended VERY BADLY between Goldwire and Tennessee. Goldwire did a lot of questionable things during her tenure there. Like, she always kept her Arkansas stickers on her car while at Tennessee, which is not something a head coach would want to see from their recruiting coordinator. And trust us, that’s just a small snippet of things that she did that ruined her relationship with Tennessee.

6:48 p.m. ET.

  • Yesterday, we stated that Louisville head coach Jeff Walz decided to not go to the Kentucky Derby which was odd because he ALWAYS goes. Well, people around Walz find that odd as well that Walz decided to “go out of town,” sources tell The Ball Out.

6:29 p.m. ET.

  • Sources have told The Ball Out just now that Adia Barnes was rumored to be on Baylor’s campus yesterday!

2:55 p.m. ET.

  • How did talented freshman transfer Kamilla Cardoso end up at South Carolina? Here’s the real story! As we mentioned before, Cardoso had played for the AAU program called FBC, who has become a force on the circuit, but at the same time, has ruffled some feathers, too. FBC was pushing for Cardoso to go to Texas because it would most likely have meant that Sasha Palmer, who is connected with FBC, would’ve gotten an assistant’s job at Texas, sources tell The Ball Out. However, their plan seemingly backfired as Cardoso got tired of being pushed to Texas. Enter in Cardoso’s Brazilian mentor, Pablo. He reached out to some of his connections in the US to find the best situation for Cardoso. Let’s just say that he didn’t hear good things about Vic Schaefer, and thus Cardoso ended up choosing South Carolina and Dawn Staley over Texas.

4/30/21:

7:57 p.m. ET.

  • This Baylor update is two-fold. First, let’s discuss the players and what they plan to do. As we mentioned in the Insider on the 27th, Kim Mulkey wanted to take a certain amount of players with her, including Hannah Gusters. Well, today, Gusters entered the transfer portal, and she is most likely headed to Baton Rouge to reunite with Mulkey.
  • Now let’s talk about their search for a new head coach. It’s been ALL over the place as their AD Mack Rhoades knows he has to get this hire right after losing Mulkey. And just WAIT until we let you all know what REALLY happened between Mulkey and the administration. There is no love lost between Rhoades and Mulkey! As we have mentioned, we know they are targeting certain mid-major coaches, and as you all know, we exclusively heard from Joni Taylor, who said that she had no interest in the job. However, something interesting happened today: Louisville head coach Jeff Walz has decided to go out of town this weekend, so why is this something to pay attention to? Well, because this weekend is the KENTUCKY DERBY and Walz NEVER misses the Derby!

4/29/21:

3:29 p.m. ET.

  • In a text message to The Ball Out, UGA head Joni Taylor states regarding Baylor: “They called, I have no interest. Staying at Georgia.”

11:47 a.m.

  • Baylor update: a new name has entered the mix — Grand Canyon head coach Molly Miller, sources tell The Ball Out. Miller is a hot name in the coaching world; she also was interviewed by Oklahoma. As mentioned earlier in the Insider, Joni Taylor from Georgia is a name to watch for Baylor.

4/28/21:

8:30 p.m. ET.

  • BIG Baylor update: From what we are hearing, Baylor is starting to target top mid-major coaches to replace Kim Mulkey. The latest names we are hearing are Marquette head coach Megan Duffy and Dayton’s Shauna Green, sources tell The Ball Out. MAKE SURE you are constantly refreshing this page because things are picking up!

11:17 a.m. ET.

  • As with any offseason, many assistants are on the move. Two assistants who found better situations this offseason: Katie Faulkner (Washington) and Joy McCorvey (Tennessee). However, there is a back story to both in that their former head coaches attempted to guilt-trip them into not leaving. Faulkner, who was at Oregon State, was told by head coach Scott Rueck that she was doing a “Mark Campbell” in going to another Pac-12 school, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Not the same scenario, however, McCorvey dealt with some pushback from FSU.
  • Oklahoma ended up with Jennie Baranczyk, but as we reported in the Insider, they really went hard after Arizona’s Adia Barnes. They OFFERED A LOT of money to leave the Wildcats. Barners then went back to Arizona, who had just redone her contract, redid her contract again.
  • Another name that USC has spoken with is former Cal head coach Lindsay Gottlieb, sources tell The Ball Out. However, Gottlieb is very happy in the NBA being an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers, so it remains to be seen if she is really interested leaving the NBA.

4/27/21:

5:21 p.m. ET.

  • Many people have asked us about Kim Mulkey going to LSU and how shocked they are, and let’s just say this: WE AREN’T! We will be revealing the details of reasons why things didn’t end well with Baylor and Mulkey.
  • However, now let’s get back to Mulkey. She wants to bring Nalyssa Smith, Queen Egbo, Moon Ursin, Sarah Andrews, Hannah Gusters with her to LSU, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Regarding Baylor, names we are hearing: Adia Barnes, Jeff Walz, and Georgia head coach Joni Taylor. Baylor coaches Bill Brock and Sytia Messer are interviewing for the position, but they have no chance at getting the job, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Another Power-5 opening is USC. Names we are hearing for the Trojans are Coach Mox from Missouri State and Lisa Fortier from Gonzaga, sources tell The Ball Out.

4/25/21:

3 p.m. ET.

  • Gail Goestenkors will be named the new assistant at Kentucky, sources tell The Ball Out.

4/24/21:

11:08 p.m. ET.

  • If things go like we are hearing and Kim Mulkey goes to LSU, look for Baylor to target Louisville’s Jeff Walz.

9:16 p.m. ET.

  • Barring an 11th-hour change of mind, Kim Mulkey will be named the next coach at LSU, sources tell The Ball Out. Things we can state in the Insider is that the AD and administration have ticked off Mulkey. Mulkey believes, and rightfully so, that she’s earned a certain amount of respect at Baylor, and per our sources, Baylor has not shown her the respect she deserves in these negotiations. We know that former Baylor players are very upset at this juncture.

3:14 p.m. ET.

  • Things really started picking up last night between Kim Mulkey and LSU, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Not only has LSU told Mulkey they are willing to pay her near $3M annually, but she will also be able to pay her assistants in the range of $400,000! If she makes the move, we are hearing that she will take Sytia Messer with her.
  • The most sought out transfer in the country is former Syracuse star Kamilla Cardoso. The 6-foot-7 freshman entered the portal earlier this week, and it’s a huge blow to the Orange. Florida State is a school we’ve heard that could land Cardoso; however, this morning multiple sources told The Ball Out that she could end up at Texas with the Longhorns offering a coaching position to her mentor, Sasha Palmer, who is connected with the FBC AAU program. Palmer has also coached in the college ranks as well.

4/23/21:

5:23 p.m. ET.

  • We are sure you have been wanting some information regarding Kim Mulkey, and we have some for you. We have been told that LSU has offered her $2.8M annually to leave Baylor for Baylor. Also, Mulkey has inquired about certain assistants if she is to make the move to the SEC, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. This situation is very fluid, so make sure to continue to refresh this page so you don’t miss any updates!

4/21/21:

1 p.m. ET.

  • Also, Cal assistant April Phillips is heading to Arizona as well, sources tell The Ball Out.

11:48 a.m. ET.

  • We are hearing that USC assistant Erin Grant is leaving the Trojans to join Adia Barnes’ staff at Arizona, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

4/20/21:

1:26 a.m. ET.

  • We hope every one of our Insiders had an amazing weekend, now back to the rumors and news!
  • Kennesaw State: Two finalists for this job are former Auburn assistant  Clarisse Garcia and Miami Associate Head Coach Octavia Blue, sources tell The Ball Out. A dark horse candidate is in the mix as well.
  • Keep refreshing this page, because there’s a lot we are hearing!

4/16/21:

7:55 p.m. ET.

  • As you all are aware, Mark Campbell is the new head coach at Sacramento State; however, you might not know what led to Campbell pursuing so many jobs this offseason. He was NOT going to be retained this offseason no matter what, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. There was real friction between him and Kelly Graves, sources say.

4:48 p.m. ET.

4/14/21:

11:56 p.m. ET.

  • We are hearing that Tennessee assistant Jennifer Sullivan is leaving the Lady Vols to become a head coach somewhere. If we had to take a guess, we believe she’s going to replace Jim Jabir at FAU.

3:12 p.m. ET.

  • Lots of updates in this next one! Let’s go to the West Coast! Especially regarding a HUGE Power 5 school, keep reading and refreshing 🙂
  • Portland State: they are leaning towards keeping the interim head coach Chelsey Gregg but Oregon’s Mark Campbell is in the mix.
  • Sacramento State: Cal assistant April Phillips and USC assistant Erin Phillips are involved.
  • Michigan assistant coach Yvonne Sanchez is leaving and could end up at Arizona State, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Loyola Marymount is down to their finalists and two names we know are Mark Campbell from Oregon and Alaska Anchorage head coach Ryan McCarthy, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Eastern Washington is targeting Gonzaga assistant Jordan Green, and we are hearing that he has an interest as well.
  • Now, this is a rumor, but we always promise to bring you EVERYTHING we are hearing. Right now the rumor is that USC head coach Mark Trakh could be retiring.

4/12/21:

11:54 p.m. ET.

  • There’s some chatter regarding Shea Ralph and Vanderbilt. We were skeptical of this earlier today based on what we were hearing; however, things are very fluid with these coaching searches. The chatter regarding Ralph is louder, and we should know more by the morning. Based on what we have heard, this is a very recent development. Stay tuned and keep refreshing this page.
  • Marquette transfer Camryn Taylor wants to play in a bigger conference. The two conferences that allegedly prefer are the SEC and Big 10, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • A Power 5 coach we are hearing could be under investigation for tampering, according to sources. We are going to really look hard into this.

12:47 p.m. ET.

  • Vanderbilt: Here are the names that multiple sources have told are involved with the Commodores: Missouri State’s Coach Mox, Cincinnati head coach Michelle Clark-Heard, Furman head coach Jackie Carson, Tennessee assistant Lacey Goldwire and Notre Dame assistant Coquese Washington. As we stated earlier this morning, UConn’s Shea Ralph has not been contacted by Vanderbilt, and they have shown no interest in her, according to multiple sources.

10:40 a.m. ET.

  • One thing about The Ball Out Insider, you will always be given the BEST information when it comes to most things in women’s basketball that we know about. There’s a tweet floating around suggesting that UConn’s Shea Ralph is connected with the Vandy job; that is not true! She’s not in the mix and is not being considered for the position, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. We know the names involved, especially the top-two candidates, we will post them later, but we wanted to make sure you all knew the latest thus far with Vanderbilt.
  • Indiana State: they have interviewed Vandy assistant Kelly Komara for their head coaching vacancy, sources tell The Ball Out. Komara is one of two finalists for the position. She interviewed last Thursday.

4/10/21:

8:47 p.m. ET.

  • LSU’s Nikki Fargas is on the hot seat going into this season. Many people in Baton Rouge feel that she’s underachieved based on the standards of LSU. As someone prominently connected to LSU stated to one of our top sources: “10 seasons and not a good record. Had 4 more players enter the transfer portal. Keeps losing players. Hearing that Scott Woodward has to make a change. Before Covid even occurred, ticket sales were extremely low.”
  • We are hearing that Gary Blair from Texas A&M could be retiring, we aren’t sure when, but that’s what multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Also, we are hearing that Associate Head Coach Kelly Bond-White will be his replacement.
  • Arizona’s Tamisha Augustine could be on her way to Texas, that’s what sources speculate to The Ball Out.
  • We are already hearing things about Vanderbilt, so make sure to keep refreshing the page. We got you covered here at The Ball Out Insider!

4/9/21:

4 p.m. ET.

  • Keep refreshing the page, updates coming soon!!

4/8/21:

4:53 p.m. ET:

A new name has entered into the Oklahoma mix: Drake head coach Jennie Baranczyk. With UCLA’s Cori Close turning the job down (that’s what we are hearing), Oklahoma is now looking at their other tier of candidates.

4/7/21:

11:19 p.m. ET:

One of the MAIN reasons we created The Ball Out Insider is because we can GIVE YOU all the scoop, rumors, and more! And this next post has SO MUCH scoop; enjoy!

  • Now here’s the latest rumor we just heard from a very reliable source via text: Cori Close is leveraging Oklahoma for more money to stay at UCLA. And the latest name that could be in line for Sooners job … ex-Oklahoma great Stacey Dales! That’s right, Stacey Dales!
  • Michigan: we are hearing that all of the assistants are leaving the Wolverines. Look for the possibility of Wesley Brooks landing at Mississippi State. We aren’t sure where Yvonne Sanchez will land, but she is definitely leaving as well.
  • Arizona State Associate Head Coach Angie Nelp is in the mix for Rice and Tulsa.
  • There is a strong possibility that Cal assistant April Phillips will leave for the vacant head coaching job at LMU.

7:05 p.m. ET:

  • Oklahoma update: a GREAT source that we haven’t talked with a while just told us Cori Close. We have heard her name A LOT, and this could be picking back up steam, stay tuned and keep refreshing this page!

5:53 p.m. ET:

  • While we know that Oklahoma offered their position to Cori Close and kicked the tires with Adia Barnes, there’s another name that we believe is in the mix: South Dakota’s Dawn Plitzuweit. As we mentioned before, we have heard Coach Mox from Missouri State, too.

12 p.m. ET:

  • Kansas assistants Damitria Buchanan and Jhasmin Player are on the move as both will be leaving the Jayhawks for other programs. Buchanan is headed to Auburn to join Johnnie Harris’ staff, and Player is heading to SMU, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Auburn: we are hearing that new head coach Johnnie Harris is targeting Texas A&M assistant Bob Starkey to join her staff, sources tell The Ball Out.

4/6/21:

8:49 p.m. ET:

  • Oklahoma: This update is EXACTLY the reason why we created The Ball Out Insider! This is so EXCLUSIVE and HUGE! And while we can’t report this because it’s a rumor, but we are hearing that Oklahoma is going after Adia Barnes and throwing A LOT of money at her … A LOT! If we had to guess, it’s $1.2M-$1.4M annually. Now ask yourself a question: wouldn’t this catch your attention? Now, this is the most exclusive rumor for now, but that’s what a very reliable source told us on the condition of anonymity.

11 a.m. ET:

  • Oklahoma: a quick update on this one. Early on, we know for a fact that they offered the job to UCLA head coach Cori Close. Another name that we have heard is Missouri State’s Coach Mox; moreover, we know that Missouri State is very “worried” that they are going to lose her, but over the past 24-48 hours, it has gone quiet.
  • Notre Dame: rumor we heard last night from a very reliable source is that there could be friction on the staff. Assistant coach Coquese Washington has made it known that she’s looking to be a head coach again. And one source stated that there is real tension.

4/5/21:

6:47 p.m. ET:

  • Transfer update: Don’t be surprised to see Mississippi State freshman Madison Hayes end up at NC State, source tells The Ball Out.

4:50 p.m. ET:

  • It is not now official Washington has hired Tina Langley as their next head coach. As you all are aware, we reported this yesterday. Now that leaves Oklahoma as the last vacancy, and there is a lot that we are hearing that it could be Coach Mox. We will update more soon.

1:14 p.m. ET:

  • Auburn offered Langley just $500,000 for their head coaching position. Also, hearing that their AD is on the hot seat for how he handled their football hire as well as the women’s basketball one, too.

11:45 a.m. ET.

  • Talking to sources this morning, the latest rumor could be Tina Langley to Oklahoma. Like we stated earlier, keep refreshing this page; there’s a lot happening! Rice is definitely worried about losing Langley.

10:51 a.m. ET.

  • The phone is already ringing non-stop, so make sure to keep refreshing this page!

4/4/21:

1 p.m. ET.

Happy Easter, everyone! And last night, that shot from Jalen Suggs was WOW! We can’t w/ait for tonight’s final between Arizona and Stanford! Here are some updates on Easter!

  • Oklahoma: as of right now, we are skeptical that Cori Close and Oklahoma will come to a deal. If we had to take our best guess right now, we think Coach Mox from Missouri State could be involved with Oklahoma.
  • As we reported on The Ball Out Insider Friday afternoon, Auburn was going to hire Johnnie Harris after Tina Langley turned them down. We are hearing that Harris is targeting Kansas’ Damitria Buchanan to be her assistant with the Tigers, sources tell The Ball Out.
  • Washington: Don’t be surprised if Langley takes this job. We also know that Stanford Associate Head Coach Kate Paye has been involved. However, we are very skeptical that she would actually leave the Cardinal.

4/2/21:

5:24 p.m. ET:

  • So here’s what we are hearing with Tina Langley and why she turned down Auburn. Langley is also in the mix for Washington, and rumor has it that she was offered the head coaching job by both Washington and Auburn, with the Huskies offering her more money. Auburn is in scramble mode.

5:10 p.m. ET:

  • Texas’ Celeste Taylor has hit the transfer portal, and we are hearing that Duke is the early frontrunner for Taylor.

12:07 p.m. ET:

  • Auburn: Multiple sources have told us that Tina Langley has TURNED DOWN the Tigers job and that they are trying “to get” Texas Associate Head Coach Johnnie Harris done today! This is a major development that we are hearing.
  • San Francisco: Allegedly, head coach Molly Goodenbour could be in serious trouble and might not last with the Dons. We are hearing some serious stuff about this situation.

11:38 a.m. ET:

  • There’s some smoke when it comes to Cori Close to Oklahoma.

10:27 a.m. ET:

  • Auburn: don’t expect anything to happen with this one until next week at the earliest, is what we are hearing. Names we hear for this still are Tina Langley (we believe she’s the frontrunner) and Texas’ Johnnie Harris.
  • Oklahoma: they are planning to have a press conference in the next few days to introduce their next head coach, sources tell The Ball Out. We know they offered the job to UCLA’s Cori Close — and they offered her a lot of money, too! However, we don’t know if she decided to take the job or passed on it. But she’s definitely been involved.

4/1/21:

1:59 p.m. ET:

  • We are hearing that SMU could be on the verge of hiring Michigan assistant coach Toyelle Wilson, sources tell The Ball Out. That’s the rumor we are hearing.

3/30/21

11:02 p.m. ET:

  • We have heard from a strong source that Tina Langley from Rice is involved with Washington.
  • Auburn AD Allen Greene reached out to Niele Ivey to gauge her interest in the Tigers job. This one really threw us for a loop as we don’t understand why he did that, but he did.

5:55 p.m. ET:

  • SMU: They have to start all over when it comes to their search. They tried to hire Texas A&M Associate Head Coach Kelly Bond, but Bond turned them down and will stay with the Aggies. Why? Because Bond is the next in line for the Aggies’ job as head coach Gary Blair will be retiring (not sure when Blair will retire). After getting turned down, SMU attempted to pivot and land Karen Aston, but they waited too long as Aston took the UTSA job!

12:42 p.m. ET:

  • We are hearing that Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier has turned down the Washington job.

3/29/21

4:00 p.m. ET:

  • Some fascinating information that we just received. Oklahoma has supposedly offered their job to UCLA head coach Cori Close, and as one source stated, they offered her “A LOT”, so this is something to watch. A name that really surprised us is that UCF head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson could be in the mix for Washington; wow, we didn’t see that one coming! Also, Texas’ Johnnie Harris has not spoken with Auburn, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. As you all might know, Mississippi State freshman Madison Hayes is in the transfer portal but has a no-contact order. So that makes us think she could be headed to Texas to play for Vic Schaefer.

1:53 p.m. ET:

  • We hear that Syracuse G Emily Engstler could be transferring to Louisville, sources tell The Ball Out.

12:09 p.m.ET:

  • Top-2023 prospect Jada Williams will be announcing her commitment to UCLA in the next hour, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

3/28/21

11:58 p.m. ET:

  • Tulane super freshman Jerkaila Jordan has heard from Ole Miss, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas Tech, LSU, and Mississippi State, to name a few. Some sources believe she might follow her high school coach Barbara Farris to Stetson as Farris is now an assistant there.

(9:26 p.m. ET):

  • We believe that Coach Mox from Missouri State is also in the mix for Auburn and Texas Associate head coach Johnnie Harris.

(3:59 p.m. ET):

  • Marquette is working hard to land Arkansas G Jailyn Mason (RSr). This would be a major pickup for them.
  • A name that’s been a hot one right now is Missouri State’s, Coach Mox. A source told us that the Missouri State AD is working hard to keep her but doesn’t believe they have the money to do so.

3/28/21 (12:47 a.m. ET):

  • A couple of Power-5 jobs that could come open: Virginia and Florida, sources tell The Ball Out.

3/27/21 (11:38 a.m ET):

  • Source does not believe that Rickea Jackson will be transferring from Mississippi State. And some BIG schools could be coming open; stay tuned.

3/26/21 (11 a.m. ET):

  • Wright State head coach Katrina Merriweather is presumably the top target for Memphis. The Tigers have shifted their direction for what they want as a head coach. They are now focused on a sitting head coach, sources tell The Ball Out.

3/25/21

  • 7:38 p.m. ET: Here’s a shocker: UCF head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson is seriously in the mix for … Auburn! Like, that’s a name that I didn’t expect to hear, but she is very much in play to leave UFC for Auburn. Another name I’m hearing is Chanda Rigby from Troy.
  • (1:35 p.m. ET): Stanford Associate head coach Kate Paye is set to have a second interview with Washington this week. Another name squarely in the mix for Washington is Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier. One source believes that it’s a “50-50” chance that Fortier would leave the Bulldogs for the Huskies.
