Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys will have a new wide receiver to throw to this season. The team acquired Amari Cooper from the Oakland Raiders for a 2019 first-round pick. The Raiders now have three first-round picks in the 2019 draft after previously acquiring two from Chicago in a trade for Khalil Mack.

“I got a call from (Cowboys vice president) Stephen Jones this morning, he put it on the table, what he wanted to do, and he wanted the player, and he gave me the pick, and that’s what it came down to,” stated Oakland’s general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Rumors have been circulating of other teams having an interest in Cooper, however, McKenzie stated he had to wait for an offer of a first-round pick.

“I think he’s a first-round player, that’s why I had to get that first-round pick,” McKenzie said. “Now, has he been inconsistent? Absolutely. But, has he shown greatness? Absolutely. The consistency is something that I’m sure he’s worked on, and this guy’s still a young player. I think he’s going to do well down in Dallas.”

Prior to the last two years, Cooper had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl twice. So far this year, Cooper has 22 catches for 280 yards and scored one touchdown for the Raiders.

Unfortunately, though, Cooper is under the NFL’s concussion protocol and won’t play yet for Dallas until he is officially cleared.
