FOXBORO, MA – Brown University women’s basketball coach Sarah Behn is facing domestic assault charges in Wrentham District Court.

Behn, 47, is accused of pushing her husband, Timothy McGahan, over a chair earlier this week. The incident happened at their Cutler Lane home on Sunday, July 29.

However, Behn tells a different story as to how the push happened. According to The Providence Journal, Behn, listed as Sarah Behn McGahan in the Foxboro Police report, told officers that McGahan yelled at her mother and she was trying to intervene. Hence, Behn was pushing him away.

When interviewed by the police, Behn’s mother, Diana, stated that it was only a verbal argument.

Behn was arraigned Monday morning in Wrentham District Court on charges of assault and battery on a family/household member.

She pleaded innocent to the charges.

Behn also added that she and her husband are going through a divorce and she is staying in the basement of the home with her mother.

A spokeswoman for Brown University has declined to comment on the matter in depth:

“The university is not at liberty to discuss individual employees outside the context of their work activities, or any individual employee matters, which are not public,” the spokesperson said.

Behn has since been freed on own recognizance, with a court order that requires her to obey a restraining order that her husband has filed against her. In addition, she is due back in court Sept. 7 for a pre-trial conference.
