Los Angeles waives All-Star, WNBA champ

The Los Angeles Sparks have released guard Cappie Pondexter today after she appeared in 13 games with the Sparks this season and averaged 3.6 points per game.

“We want to thank Cappie for her time here in Los Angeles and we wish her nothing but the best moving forward,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler.

The 35-year-old was selected second overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft and averaged a little over ten minutes per game this season. In her career, she has played for the Phoenix Mercury (won two championships), the New York Liberty, and the Chicago Sky. During her career, she also has been named an All-Star seven times, three All-WNBA first team selection, and was the 2007WNBA Finals MVP.

Upon her release, Pondexter will be free to sign with any team in the league.
