Bronny James commits to USC

LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, has announced his commitment to the University of Southern California (USC) on Saturday, making him the top uncommitted player in the Class of 2023. The four-star guard, who is ranked as the No. 26 player in the class according to 247Sports, chose the Trojans over Ohio State and Oregon.

Bronny’s recruitment had been a subject of intense speculation as he has emerged as a legitimate NBA prospect over the past few years. A star at Sierra Canyon in Los Angeles, the college route seemed to be the better option for his growth and development.

His father, LeBron James, is currently leading the Los Angeles Lakers in the same city, making playing at USC a simple decision from a geographic standpoint.

Bronny James picks USC over other Nike schools

The finalists for Bronny’s commitment were all Nike schools with various ties to him and his father. Though Ohio State was LeBron James’ favorite collegiate program as he is from Akron, Ohio, Oregon, a significant Nike player, already had a connection with Bronny via Nike founder Phil Knight, who signed James to a NIL deal.

The addition of Bronny to USC’s roster elevates the Trojans’ Class of 2023 up to eighth nationally and number one in the Pac-12, slightly ahead of Oregon. The plan now for Bronny is to participate in his final games as a high school player, following which, he will set his sights on his future with the Trojans.

Saturday’s commitment by Bronny is the culmination of what has been a successful month of basketball for him. He was recently selected as part of the West team for the Nike Hoop Summit, where he had the opportunity to play with Isaiah Collier, the No.1 overall prospect, who had been recruiting Bronny hard publicly.

Bronny’s decision to commit to USC marks another chapter in the family’s history of excellence, with LeBron dominating the NBA and Bronny following in his father’s footsteps. Now, with Bronny set to join the Trojans, a new chapter begins for the James dynasty.

He is ranked as the No. 19 prospect in the ESPN 100 for the Class of 2023.

Proud father

LeBron James had a day to remember off the court and on it. Following his son’s decision to attend college, coupled with the Lakers’ decisive victory against Golden State in Game 3 of their playoff series, James declared that this was one of the best days he has ever experienced! After all these years, someone from ‘The James Gang’, as they call them affectionately at home – is set to continue his journey into higher education; an occasion worthy of celebration for not only this family but also basketball fans everywhere.

“First of all congratulations to my son on his next journey and picking a great university,” James said in a postgame press conference. “I’m proud of him. This is an incredible thing. Unless it was one of my great-grandmothers or great-grandfathers or someone way before my time, to my knowledge this is the first one out of the James Gang to go to college.”
