For the past few days, one of the hottest NBA topics has been Boston’s head coach Ime Udoka being suspended for the upcoming season violating multiple team policies. One policy violated included having an intimate relationship with a female member of the franchise’s staff.
Sadly, Udoka has a very well-known relationship with actress Nia Long. Not only are the two engaged, but they also have a 10-year-old son as well. Long did release a statement on the news after recently finding out about the affair — an affair the Boston organization has known about for months and hence had been investigating Udoka.
“The outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community during this difficult time means so much to me. I ask that my privacy be respected as I process the recent events. Above all, I am a mother and will continue to focus on my children.”
Per a report, Long and her son Kez had recently moved to Boston and were house hunting recently.
Since the Celtics suspended Udoka, he has issued an apology for his actions:
“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down. I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.”
With him suspended for the season, Boston will be coached by assistant coach Joe Mazzulla.
Friday during a press conference, the Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck and president of basketball operations Brad Stevens didn’t specify deeper on all policies that were violated. Grousbeck did state there would be a “significant” financial penalty and no other individuals within the Boston organization would be disciplined as a result of the organization.
“I am concerned about the situation and its impact on everybody in the Celtics’ organization,” Grousbeck shared during the press conference. “I do hope this represents the beginning of a new chapter, and a chance to turn the page and move forward with things, to some extent, resolved.”
