It has been over two decades since the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at the VMAs — the wait is now over. In 2000, the iconic group received the Video Vanguard Award — which Nicki Minaj is the recipient this year — but this year they will receive the Global Icon Award.
Not only will they receive this prestigious award, they will also grace the stage to perform.
The 8x “VMAs” winners are seeking to take home a win in “Best Rock” for “Black Summer,” off of their platinum-selling chart-topping album, Unlimited Love.
The group is made up of singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist John Frusciante and they are one of the best rock groups in the world. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold more than 60 million albums, won six Grammy Awards, and are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since being inducted in 2012.
Get ready music lovers, this year’s VMAs are going to be unforgettable on Aug. 28. Lizzo is performing, Dove Cameron is making her performance debut, Kane Brown will be making history, and Panic! At The Disco will take the stage too.
