Janelle Sumilong, a player on the Nevada women’s basketball team, was arrested and has been charged with two misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence.

A department spokesperson from Nevada said this in a statement:

“We are aware of the incident and are gathering more information at this time. We will handle disciplinary measures once all the facts are known.”

Sumilong was arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol at 2:17 am Monday morning, with the first charge being driving under the influence and the second charge being “failure to decrease speed/use care.”

Sumilong was a freshman at Nevada last season and played in 29 of the team’s 36 games during her first collegiate season. The 19-year-old averaged 2.4 points per game and shot 34.1 percent from the field. In high school, Sumilong set the girls basketball scoring record with 2,301 points, which was previously held for 17 years.
