Something special is brewing at Kansas State. Actually — someone special is capturing well-deserved attention after ERUPTING for a massive 61-points today. It’s 6-6″ junior center Ayoka Lee from Kansas State.

Lee was unstoppable today as the Wildcats upset No. 14 Oklahoma. The center had her way this afternoon setting a women’s Division 1 single-game record for points scored. Lee finished on 23-for-30 from the field (77%), but she stuffed the stat sheet by also pulling down 12 rebounds, one steal, and three blocks.

Her play led to a huge upset — she almost single-handedly outscored the Sooners herself — as Kansas State won 94-65. Also, Lee broke Brittney Griner’s previous record which was 50 points in a single game.

From the tip, Lee let it be known she was going to be a factor in today’s game. In fact, she scored the first two buckets of the game. The Sooners tried to stop her, but then fouled Lee on a shot attempt sending her to the free-throw line. Lee cashed in at the line, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of the Wildcats — all scored by Lee.

Kansas State found themselves up 15-0 about halfway through the opening period. By then, Lee had already established herself, setting the tone for the remainder of the game: she was going to be a force inside and tough to stop. Of the team’s first 15 points, Lee had 12. Oklahoma finally got on the board, however, KState had great momentum from the hot start of Lee.

The second period looked much like the first — too much Lee dominating for Kansas State. By intermission, she had a school record of 32 points and her team up 51-27.

Sometimes a player cools off once halftime hits, not Lee though. This young lady is the real deal. By the end of the third, she was still too much of a force for the Sooners as she had racked up 59 points and nine rebounds going into the last 10 minutes of play.

Rightfully so, Kansas State kept going to Lee and No. 14 Oklahoma had absolutely no way of stopping her. It was a moment to see the excitement from teammates as Lee scored at ease en route to 61 points.

While Lee thought today was just going to be another Sunday as she told the media after the game, it turned out to a record-setting Sunday.
