The Justice Department announced today, a federal grand jury has indicted Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress. Bannon is a former White House chief strategist under the Donald Trump administration.

Since Oct. 21, Attorney General Merrick Garland has been pressured to indict Bannon for his contempt.

“Since my first day in office, I have promised Justice Department employees that together we would show the American people by word and deed that the Department adheres to the rule of law, follows the facts and the law, and pursues equal justice under the law,” shared Garland in a statement. “Today’s charges reflect the Department’s steadfast commitment to these principles.”

Bannon ignored the subpoena sent to him for the investigation of the attack on Jan. 6 on the U.S. Capitol.

Bannon now has two charges he is facing with a potential fine of as much as $100,000. One count is in relation to his refusal to provide specific documents and the other is for his refusal to appear for a deposition. At a minimum, each charge could be 30 days to a maximum year in jail.
