Diana Taurasi is already the WNBA’s All-Time leading scorer. After today though, she has now reached an even high level as she has scored over 8,000 career points.

The Phoenix Mercury guard became the first WNBA player to reach this milestone, capping off her 8,000thpoint on a free throw to finish a three-point play at the halfway mark of the first quarter versus the New York Liberty. She finished the match-up with 21 points, giving her 8,018 points for her career and an 80-74 victory.

“Somebody will come along and break it eventually,” Taurasi said after the game. “It is a nice round number.”

Taurasi is an eight-time All-Star and two-time Finals MVP, entering the WNBA in 2004 after a successful career at UConn. She has played all 14 seasons with the Mercury, where she has won three championships and also earned the 2009 WNBA MVP award.

She is also only one of nine women to win an Olympic Gold Medal (4), an NCAA Championship (3), and a WNBA Championship (3). In 2011, she was voted by fans as one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time, joining superstars like Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes who were also named.
