Things got rather heated during the third quarter of yesterday’s contest featuring the Ole Miss Rebels and No. 18 Mississippi State Bulldogs in the 2018 Egg Bowl. Many fans were carving up the Thanksgiving turkey and giving thanks. Moreover, for those who were watching the game, they witnessed the 35-3 blowout that Mississippi State handed to Ole Miss.

Yet, what has the sports world talking is what happened during the third quarter of the game. On the final play of the third period, officials allowed Ole Miss to run a play in which quarterback Matt Corral hit wide receiver A.J. Brown for what would have been a 41-yard touchdown had they snapped the ball before time expired.

While in the end zone, both teams began arguing as the frame ended and were being separated. However, as the refs were trying to calm the situation, Bulldogs safety Johnathan Abram threw a punch at Brown, who then swung back. Because Thanksgiving wouldn’t be what it is without a little arguing, right?

As a result of the brawl, the officials were in a giving mood themselves as they gave an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to “all players from both teams.” In addition, Bulldogs cornerbacks Jamal Peters and Cameron Dantzler and linebacker Willie Gay Jr. were all ejected. The Rebels also lost defensive back C.J. Moore.

If one of the refs were named Oprah, they could’ve said, “You get a penalty, you get a penalty, everyone gets a penalty.”

All jokes aside, however, with Peters, Dantzler, and Gay getting caught up in the moment and doing what most players do, protecting their teammates if there’s a fight, the results may cost them and the team. Allegedly it’s believed that suspensions will come down the pike for all three of these players. Should they be suspended, this would mean that they would be sidelined for Mississippi State’s upcoming bowl game.

We will update you on possible suspensions should they come.
