Rutgers linebacker Izaia Bullock has been dismissed from the team after being accused of being involved in a plot to murder two members of a friend’s family.
According to the university, Bullock will face disciplinary proceedings along with his dismissal.
Bullock, a 22-year-old junior, was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder. The arrest and charges were announced on Tuesday evening in a joint statement from Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop.
According to the statement, the charges were filed on Monday night after determining that “Bullock initiated a plot to murder the family members of an acquaintance”. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor said that the targets, who have no affiliation with Rutgers, were not harmed.
Bullock was a redshirt linebacker and suited up for one game, but did not register any statistics. He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center before appearing at Superior Court in New Brunswick.
