The WNBA announced Wednesday that the league’s Most Valuable Player, Breanna Stewart of the Seattle Storm, was unanimously selected to the 2018 All-WNBA First Team. Stewart was the only player to be named to the First Team unanimously with on all 39 ballots in voting by a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
Stewart, who is a first time recipient of both All-WNBA First Team award as well as the league MVP, had a remarkable season. This season, the 6-foot-four-inch forward ranked second in points per game (21.8), third in rebounds (8.4), seventh in blocks (1.44), eighth in steals (1.35), 10th in field goal percentage (52.9) and eighth in three-point percentage (41.5).
Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi was named to an All-WNBA team for the 13th time in her career, which sets a WNBA record. Taurasi was selected to the WNBA’s First Team for the 10th time in her career, extending her WNBA record for First Team selections.
Taurasi, who is the WNBA’s all-time points leader, tied for third in the league in scoring with 20.7 points per game, her highest average since 2011. In addition, her 106 three-pointers were a WNBA-high this season. She led the league in free throw percentage (92.5) and finished fourth in assists (5.3).
Joining Stewart and Taurasi on the All-WNBA First Team were Liz Cambage (Wings) and Tiffany Hayes (Dream), who both were also first time recipients, and Elena Delle Donne (Mystics).
Candace Parker (Sparks), Skylar Diggins-Smith (Wings), Maya Moore (Lynx), Brittney Griner (Mercury), and Courtney Vandersloot (Sky) were named to the All-WNBA Second Team.
