Last night I had the opportunity to attend “An Evening with House of Hazelwood” at The Melody Whisky Bar, an experience that showcased some of Scotland’s rarest and most character-rich whiskies. The event offered a curated tasting flight of seven exceptional expressions, each one reflecting the artistry, patience, and heritage behind the House of Hazelwood name.

The highlight of the night began with The Cask Trials – 1968 Vintage Single Grain Scotch Whisky (49.2%), a beautifully matured expression with a silky texture. Its soft vanilla sweetness and gentle oak tones set an elegant tone for the tasting journey. From there, we moved on to Spirit of Scotland – 46-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky (43.6%), a blend defined by balance: floral notes layered with subtle spice and a lingering, refined finish.

The third whisky, The Lowlander – 36-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky (45.9%), showcased bright Lowland character—light, grassy, and refreshingly smooth. This contrasted wonderfully with Garden at Hazelwood – 47-Year-Old Blended Malt Whisky (43.7%), which opened with orchard fruits, honey, and an incredibly delicate fragrance reminiscent of a spring garden.

As the evening continued, the profiles grew bolder. The Accelerator & The Brake – 33-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky (56.7%) delivered a dynamic and powerful palate, perfectly named for its bold bursts of flavor balanced by moments of restraint. The tasting concluded with The Tops – 33-Year-Old Blended Malt Whisky (51.6%), a rich and structured whisky with layers of depth—dried fruits, gentle smoke, and warm oak.

Overall, the event offered not only world-class whiskies but also an opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship behind decades of maturation. The Melody Whisky Bar provided the perfect intimate atmosphere for exploring such rare and remarkable spirits from one of Scotland’s most prestigious private collections.
