Los Angeles, CA — Today I covered the Tyson Fury verse Deontay Wilder press conference at LA Live in Los Angeles. And let me tell you — what a great way to kick off the summer season. The event started off with the press all talking amongst themselves in the media pit anxiously waiting for the face-off to begin. Once the fighters were announced, the whole room went silent for their entrance to the stage.
From the jump, you could tell that Fury aka The Gypsy King, was eager to be on that stage and let it be known he’s about to win for the second time. The first fight between Wilder and Fury ended in a draw but in 2020 Fury won in the seventh round by TKO. Fury came out shirtless (fighters gut and all) and made a few not-so-subtle comments about what happened in the last fight.
His opponent, Deontay Wilder aka The Bronze Bomber, on the other hand, was not having it! He hardly said anything. Typically during these conferences, the fighters talk about their upcoming match. However, Wilder didn’t say a word. When asked questions by the interviewer, he didn’t take his headphones off. I’m not sure if he even heard anything during the entire event! His trainer answered any questions about the fight.
When it was time to stand off — it got serious. Both fighters stood there starring each other down for at least five minutes. With Fury, it seemed funny and like a game. With Wilder though, you could tell it was serious, I don’t think he blinked once! He may have lost the last fight between the two but he definitely won the starring contest!
Eventually, Wilder walked away and Fury stood there with his camp clearly amped up.
“You can go to college and get a master’s degree in nearly two years, so for a boxer, that’s very easy to do,” said Fury. “No matter what Deontay Wilder does, I’m still going to knock him the fu*k out!”
“I see me beating him up and then knocking him out,” said Wilder. “I’m going to put on a great performance Saturday night.”
This was my first boxing event and it exceeded my expectations! I’m hyped to watch this fight in July.
