Times might be changing in Green Bay. Per Adam Schefter, Aaron Rodgers — last season’s Most Valuable Player — is ready to leave the Packers.

According to Schefter, Rodgers has shared with individuals within the organization he doesn’t want to return to the team. During the off-season, Mark Murphy (team president), Brian Gutekunst (general manager), and head coach Matt LaFleur all took individual trips to speak with Rodgers. Despite them wanting to keep Rodgers, his thoughts on staying haven’t.

“As we’ve stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond,” Gutekunst told ESPN. “Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team.”

If Rodgers doesn’t stay with Green Bay, he will be the third quarterback for the franchise to leave after 16 seasons. Brett Farve played for two different teams after 16 seasons with Green Bay while Bart Starr retired after 16 seasons

This news comes just hours before the 2021 NFL draft which kicks off tonight with Round 1. It will be interesting to see if the Packers go after a quarterback again or make moves tonight to actually trade Rodgers.

Furthermore, after winning MVP, a player has never been traded the following season after receiving the honor. Norm Van Brocklin and Jim Brown are the only MVPs to not return to their respective team the season after winning the award — both had retired.

Already there have been calls for Rodgers — rightfully so — no offers have been on the table yet.
