Nike has filed a lawsuit against the designers of the collection of satanic sneakers promoted by the singer Lil Nas X. The shoe, known as ‘Satan Shoes’ that despite the fact that they carry the company’s logo, MSCHF did not have their approval.
“Where the shoe has been seen the most has been with the drop of blood in the Air Max area. What we want in this world is to have the most special, the most limited. They can even go up to 30,000 or more over time. 40,000 euros “, explained to Antena 3 Deportes the Youtuber and collector Carlos Martín.
The complaint, for trademark infringement, was filed in federal court on the same day that the artist and the artistic collective MSCHF put up for sale a limited series of sneakers. There were 666 pairs sold, each at $1,018. However, a judge has blocked the shoes from being shipped to customers. Moreover, US district judge Eric Komitee granted Nike a temporary restraining order which is haunting Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoes’ from being shipped.
In more detail, the shoes are a modified version of the Nike Air Max 97 model. Within minutes, all 666 pairs were sold, causing an uproar in which even some conservative politicians have accused Nike of promoting Satanism.
The company had to respond to the criticism claiming that they were not involved in the design or sale of the shoes.
“There is evidence that there is significant market confusion, including calls for a boycott of Nike in response to the launch of the MSCH Satanic Shoes, which are based on the mistaken belief that Nike has licensed or approved this product,” stated the company.
The collection is the result of a collaboration between the collective of designers MSCHF and Lil Nas X for the premiere of ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’, the artist’s comeback single after his hit ‘Old Town Road’, winner of two Grammy Awards.
