Despite having one of the biggest albums in 2020 “After Hours”, The Weeknd was snubbed by the Grammys.

The Canadian singer said he will avoid the Grammys going forward.

“Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys, the Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency….” The Weeknd said in a release.

It was the largest snub of the year at the 2021 Grammy nominations in November. The super star’s After Hours album was one of the most popular of the year in 2020, which is also debuting at No.1 on the Billboard 200 in March.

“Y’know, it really just comes down to the voting body that decides,” president/CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr. said in response to The Weeknd’s statement. “We’re all disappointed when anyone is upset…. But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees.”

The Weeknd isn’t the only star to have criticized the award show. Both Drake and Frank Ocean are avoiding the Grammys, too.
