Chicago, Illinois — Two WNBA MVP honors, a five-time WNBA All-Star, two-time Olympic medalist, and a WNBA champion are just a few of the historic markers Candace Parker has done in the league thus far in her 13-year career. All these accomplishments have come wearing the purple and gold for the Los Angeles Sparks.

Late last week it was rumored Parker was expected to leave Los Angeles for Chicago — the city she grew up in. Today, the Sky officially announced Parker as their newest player.

“It was a difficult decision. It’s a family event,” Parker said during the presser on Tuesday.

“It was Chicago or Los Angeles. I weighed my decisions. I envisioned myself going home,” she continued.

Parker smiled big as she spoke of how thrilled her daughter, grandmother, and best friend were learning of the news.

“My grandma FaceTimed me holding up the newspaper so excited I was coming home.”

With a change in scenery, Chicago’s newest asset said her biggest goal this off-season is “taking notes and taking care of my body.”

Head coach James Wade of the Chicago Sky spoke of what he was looking for when recruiting in free agency. “What we needed for our team was a leader. Someone who would be there for us in hard times.”

Parker will bring years of experience playing in the top league in the world. Someone who has been honored as the best offensive player in her career as well as best defensive, too.

Wade expressed his excitement for the season with the addition of Parker.

Fans get your tickets ready. I am sure Parker will make this season one to remember… doesn’t she always?
