Despite Houston’s new coaching hire, Deshaun Watson wants out

Big news broke today…Deshaun Watson has officially requested a trade from the Houston Texans.

He wants O-U-T.

The Texans just hired their new head coach, David Culley but sources close to Watson said that Culley “has not and will not alter his thinking.” The trade request reportedly happened after Watson was not thrilled about the process that Houston used to hire General Manager Nick Caserio back in early January.

Many other things have been reported as supposed reasons as to why Watson asked for this trade like finding out from the media that Deandre Hopkins was traded as well as not being consulted on the GM hire.

While everyone is scrambling trying to find out the exact reason or reasons why Watson requested this trade, what we do know is there will be a lot of complications.

If the Texans say no, Watson could refuse to show up to practice however many, many fines would be involved. Same with training camp and pre-season.

This also comes only a few months after Watson signed his contract four-year contract extension.

As for where I stand…I’m honestly not entirely sure. I am typically a traditional “if you sign the contract, stick to it for the team and your teammates.” I have always had a “team player” mentality if you will. However, if he wants out…just let him go. Where will his mentality be if he is forced to stay? He won’t be playing for the team or even himself at that point because he does. not. want. to. be. there.

So let’s say the Texans do decide to let him go. What’s next? There are so many moving parts here.

The most important thing in my opinion is the no-trade clause so Watson has a say of where he wants to be. The 25-year-old is also coming off one of his best seasons statistically so he would obviously be a hot commodity. A young, super talented quarterback with many years of solid play ahead. The world is his oyster (if the Texans let him go!)

The rumor mill is swirling about where he will go. One of them being the Jets. Although the Jets have a lot of work to do on their roster and if he were to go to Jets, the Texans would expect a lot in return and I’m not entirely sure if New Jersey can, and should, give up draft picks, etc. With any team for that matter, the Texans will be asking for a lot of draft capital in return for Watson, so I’m keeping that in mind as well.

Another team swirling around is the Miami Dolphins who have many first-round picks and could (potentially) throw Tua Tagovailoa around.

Let’s be honest though – GO TO THE BEARS DESHAUN!! Help a sister out!!! We have been searching for a liable quarterback for many years so let’s just get the deal done! Easy as that. Case closed.
