Feature films eligible for Academy Award nominations announced

Some interesting things about The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that this academy include more than 10,000 of the most successful artists, filmmakers and executives working in film.

The Academy not only supports making the movies more popular but also in recognizing excellence in filmmaking through the Oscars. Today they announced The Academy of Motion Picture ART and Sciences, Los Angeles, California, that for the 93rd Academy Awards participants will be in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature, and International Feature Film categories.

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM includes 22 nominees for the 93rd Academy Awards. There are some movies that were not able to get yet their required qualify, which is need for the qualifying rules. Below are a few nominations where the full list can be found here:

  • “Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus”
  • “Bombay Rose”
  • “Calamity”
  • “The Croods: A New Age”
  • “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu No Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train”
  • “Dreambuilders”
  • “Earwig and the Witch”
  • “Kill It and Leave This Town”
  • “Lupin III: The First”
  • “Mosley”

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE has 238 features that are eligible for Academy Awards. The qualification is the same as above. Not only the new movies can be qualifying to the awards, but those movies who have won a qualifying award already or programmed at qualifying film festivals or even the International Feature Film category.  Also, the qualified movies can also qualify for another category. The shortlist of 15 films will be published on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, but a complete list can be found here with some nominations below.

  • “Aggie”
  • “All I Can Say”
  • “All In: The Fight for Democracy”
  • “The American Sector”
  • “American Selfie: One Nation Shoots Itself”
  • “America’s Forgotten”
  • “The Antidote”
  • “Apocalypse ’45”

Also, they announced the INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM nominations. Altogether, 93 countries submitted their movies to qualify for the 93rd Academy Awards. To qualify, the movie had to be produced outside of the US, longer than 40-minutes, and the majority of the movie not in English. The shortlist of 10-15 films will be announced in the upcoming days while some nominations are listed below.

  • Brazil, “Babenco – Tell Me When I Die”
  • Bulgaria, “The Father”
