Roe vs. Wade was a landmark decision made by the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled that it is a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. This liberty has remained under the protection of the U.S. Constitution for almost 50 years until today.
After decades of Republican and Democratic party contention, the Supreme Court justice delivered the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This outcome harms women as a whole but it targets specifically low-income citizens and single mothers that lack the ability to travel to a state where the operation is legal.
The majority of the U.S. population supports abortion rights so why is this happening if this isn’t what Americans want? The views of the current Supreme Court Justices do not reflect the country’s citizens which will only further divisiveness and civil unrest. In the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to uphold the Mississippi law banning abortion post 15 weeks pregnant.
Protesting outside of the Supreme Court steps has led U.S. Capitol Police in riot gear to be on standby. Even in Chicago, local police have had to shut down streets as upset Americans protest the Supreme Court decision to ban abortion in various states.
FYI – streets are temporarily closed around the Loop for ongoing peaceful protest. Avoid the area. #CPDMediaCar pic.twitter.com/m1y8WIbTdi
