With the 2021-22 regular season winding down, there are a lot of changes on the horizon in women’s basketball, from coaching to the transfer portal. Here are the latest things we are hearing.
- First, multiple sources tell The Ball Out that Illinois head coach Nancy Fahey is getting fired at the season’s end. The Fighting Illini has already started making calls about prospective candidates through intermediaries. Illinois is looking for a black woman to be their next head coach. We also know that Fighting Illini head coach Brad Underwood is very involved in the coaching search.
- Texas transfer PG Ashley Chevalier visited Georgia Tech last weekend, sources tell The Ball Out.
- Top 2023 prospect Jayda Johnson is down to 5 or 6 schools, sources tell The Ball Out.
- Etiwanda sophomore Kennedy Smith is one of the best players in the country. She leads the nation’s No. 4 team against Sierra Canyon this week. We know that UConn has been out to see Williams, sources tell The Ball Out.
- Nebraska is dealing with a lot of turmoil now as it came out this week; associate head coach Chuck Love was suspended with pay. Also, their top 3-pointer, Ashley Scoggins, was removed from the team. Not only that, she was supposed to appear on local radio, but she canceled her appearance. We can’t go into detail about all we know, but we know that this situation has caused tension within the team, sources tell The Ball Out. However, we can state that a source of ours spoke with Love, and he denied that he had an inappropriate relationship with Scoggins.
