Friday evening in Los Angeles, former basketball player at UCLA and the Sacramento Kings, Tyler Honecycutt, was involved in a gunfire exchange with local police for nine hours. Unfortunately, Honeycutt passed away after the shootout; Honeycutt was 27-years old.

Honeycutt’s death was confirmed by a family member and his agent.

According to a report by ESPN, Honeycutt’s mother called the police and reported her son was “acting erratically.” Honeycutt had barricaded himself inside the residence.

The report further stated when the local police arrived at the scene, Honeycutt fired at them and LAPD returned his fire; no officers were injured in the exchange.

Hours later, the LAPD tweeted SWAT entered the residence to find the suspect was not responsive.

Public Information Director/Spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department Josh Rubenstein, broke down the incident earlier this morning.

LAPD also tweeted Honeycutt was killed by a self-inflicted would, not by police gunfire. The investigation is still ongoing.

More to come as the story develops.
