For the past 47 seasons, Jim Boeheim has been coaching at Syracuse. The longtime coach announced today, he will not be returning next season for Syracuse.

Unfortunately for the Orange, they lost to Wake Forest today on a buzzer-beating three-pointer during the ACC Tournament. The university has already announced Adrian Autry as the one replacing Boeheim. Autry has been his assistanct since 2011.

“There is no doubt in my mind that without Jim Boeheim, Syracuse Basketball would not be the powerhouse program it is today,” shared Chancellor Kent Syverud in a statement. “Jim has invested and dedicated the majority of his life to building this program, cultivating generations of student-athletes and representing his alma mater with pride and distinction. I extend my deep appreciation and gratitude to an alumnus who epitomizes what it means to be ‘Forever Orange.’”

He leaves the game with an overall record of 1,015-441. There are 101 wins that were vacated because of sanctions handed down by the NCAA due to rule violations. Therefore, Boeheim is the second most victories as a Division 1 men’s coach behind now retired, Mike Kryzyzewski.

Furthermore, Boeheim led Syracuse to 35 NCAA Tournament appearances, played in the Final Four five times and won a national championship in 2003.
