West Virginia plans to name South Dakota’s Dawn Plitzuweit as their next head coach, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Yesterday, we first reported that Plitzuweit was on-campus interviewing for the Mountaineers’ vacancy.
The momentum that led to this hire happened very quickly, as sources told us that there was mutual interest when the Coyotes reached the Sweet Sixteen. Plitzuweit comes to Morgantown with a very impressive resume after her six seasons in Vermillion. She went 158–35 overall and 83–10 in conference culminating with a trip to the Sweet 16 this year.
The two other finalists for this job were Boston College head coach and West Virginia native Joanna Bernabei-McNamee and Interim head coach Nitra Perry. Another name that pursued this job was Stetson’s Lynn Bria; however, sources tell us that she was always on the outside looking in.
