The hottest topic in women’s basketball this week: Will Baylor’s Kim Mulkey replace Nikki Fargas as the next LSU head coach? Two weeks ago, we first reported that Fargas was resigning as the Tigers head coach to be the Las Vegas Aces president.

LSU announced Fargas’ resignation today.

With Fargas’ resignation official, now the attention goes back to will Mulkey be her replacement? Barring an 11th-hour change of mind, Mulkey is set to become the next head coach of LSU, multiple sources have told The Ball Out.

This is a massive get for Scott Woodward and the Tigers. Mulkey will be getting at least $2.8M annually, sources have told The Ball Out. In her 21 years with the Lady Bears, she has an overall record of 632-104 (.859) with 3 National Championships.

While the move is potentially shocking, Louisiana is home for Mulkey. She was born in Hammond and played collegiately at Louisiana Tech from 1980-84.

In our Insider, we go more into depth about other things that might have pushed Mulkey to LSU, including potential friction with the Baylor administration and AD Mack Rhoades. Multiple sources tell The Ball Out that if Mulkey does indeed end up in Baton Rouge, it’s the fault of the Baylor administration as respect is a very big thing for Mulkey.
