LOS ANGELES, CA — Rapper Tory Lanez was accused on Thursday for shooting Megan Thee Stallion during a July argument.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office formally charged Lanez with an “assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.”

The mishap occurred on July 12 after the rappers were arguing while riding in a van through the Hollywood Hills. The prosecutor also alleged Lanez faced a “firearm charge and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.”

At the time, the District Attorney did no identify Megan as the victim, despite being transported to a nearby hospital for a foot injury. Once discharged though, she did address the shooting. She herself spoke out about the shooting several times, identifying Lanez as the alleged shooter through a “live” Instagram.

She also accused his team of covering up the situation both in the media and on social networks: “You shot me and your publicist and your people were going to these blogs lying.”

Lanez was arrested on July 13 as the investigation started and his arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 13. If he pleads guilty, Lanez could face 22 years and eight months behind bars — a maximum sentence. Even with an official charge, the Los Angeles Police are still investigating the shooting incident.
