The NBA world is on pins and needles as everyone is waiting to see what happens next with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. So last week, when Durant abruptly asked for a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, 24 hours after Irving opted into his $37 million contract, it surprised everyone would be an understatement.
So here’s the latest from what sources are telling us:
- Durant asked for a trade because Irving opted in. He will never say this publicly, but sources tell us that Durant is completely fed up with Irving on the basketball court. So much so that if Irving had not opted in, he would have never asked for a trade request, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.
- Sources tell us, do not dismiss the possible reconciliation between Durant and the Warriors. Many have brushed it off; trust us, the story has more legs than people want to admit.
- Now, this next point isn’t sourced but just educated insight: We don’t believe the Lakers, meaning Jeanie Buss, want to trade for Irvin. Her cryptic tweet last night at 11:11 p.m. PT caused a stir on social media. Reading between the lines and based on what we have been hearing, Buss and others in Lakers management aren’t that keen on trading for Irving.
