Unless there is a last-minute snag in negotiations, Texas A&M plans to hire Georgia’s Joni Taylor as their next head coach, multiple sources tell The Ball Out. Taylor will replace legendary A&M head coach Gary Blair who decided to retire this season.
Taylor has been the coach for the Georgia Lady Bulldogs for the past seven seasons. Last season, Taylor was named the 2021 SEC Coach of the Year and the 2021 Werner Ladder Naismith National Coach of the Year Finalist. She will leave Georgia with an overall record of 140-75 record.
We first mentioned this possibility in our Insider on March 15th as multiple sources stated that this had legs. One source who spoke to us tonight said: “Taylor is a star and is exactly what A&M is looking for.”
Georgia finished the 2021-2022 campaign 21-10 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
