Colorado shooting leaves multiple dead including officer

Next of kin have all been notified. The other victims whose lives were taken are as follows: Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stanisic, 23; Rikki Olds, 25; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Teri Leiker, 51; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62, and Jody Waters, 65.

The person of interest has been named: Ahmad Alissa, a 21-year old man. Alissa has been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder but the investigation is still ongoing to determine the motive.

Furthermore, President Biden has ordered flags to be at half-staff to honor the innocent lives taken during yesterday’s mass shooting.

“I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, March 27, 2021.  I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.”

As reported by Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold, the officer killed was Eric Talley who was with the department since 2010.

Nine other individuals were killed alongside Officer Talley.

“I want to say our hearts of this community go out to the victims of this horrific incident,” stated Herold.

“We do have a person of interest in custody. That person was injured during the incident and that person is being treated for injuries,” said Boulder Police Cmdr. Kerry Yamaguchi.

In Boulder, Colorado police have responded to alerts regarding an active shooting incident. 

A gunman entered and opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store. Videos have circulated online or shoppers dropping to the ground and hiding. The shooter has allegedly been taken out of the scene in handcuffs. A Colorado state SWAT team had arrived at the site of the incident as well as various different law enforcement agencies.

A press conference with the Boulder Police was had begun at 5:45 pm Mountain Time. At 6:41 pm Boulder Police Dept. tweeted  “Shelter in place notice at 17th and Grove has been lifted”.

According to a CNN update, at least one officer had been killed during the incident. It has also been reported that an AR-15 style rifle was used as a weapon. More information is to come, as many reports have given conflicting numbers of victims. This is yet another major shooting that has occurred in the state of Colorado. The Aurora Chuckee Cheese Shooting (1993), Columbine High School massacre (1999), Aroura Movie Theater Shooting (2012), and numerous shootings in Colorado Springs have occurred within only recent history.

The person of interest has been arrested and there is no “ongoing public threat”.
