Update:
As of Monday, Feb. 25 R. Kelly is still in jail after not being able to post 10% of his $100,000 bond. His attorney has entered not guilty pleas for all 10 counts of his sexual abuse case. He it set to appear in court March 22 and has been assigned to Cook County Associate Judge Lawrence Flood.
Upon his release of making bail, Kelly is not allowed to have any no contact with females younger than 18.
Backstory:
Since the docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” was aired on Lifetime last month, millions around the world were questioning how long it would be until the singer, producer, Robert Kelly, known as R. Kelly, would be charged for the accusations made against him.
Today is that day.
The R&B singer has been charged with multiple criminal counts of sexual abuse of a teenager, according to NBC News. According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago, he is facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest this afternoon.
While the specific number of victims in the case have not been disclosed, prosecutors have stated the ages vary from 13-16 years old.
For years, Kelly has denied allegations made against him. In fact, in 2008 he was on trial for child pornography, but those charges eventually were dropped.
Kelly is set to appear in court on March 8 according to one report.
