Hayward, CA – Elite golfers from around the world took to the TPC Stonebrae course Tuesday to practice for this week’s Ellie Mae Classic. But one player may surprise you.

With his charcoal-grey polo shirt and matching golf shoes, Golden State Warriors’ star Steph Curry, certainly looked the part. His swing even rivaled that of tournament pros. But the 6-foot-3 point guard said he knows he has to be at his best to beat his score from his first Ellie Mae Classic last year.

“These guys are really good,” said Curry. “I know that was a tagline back in the day, but they’re amazing talents. They grind every single week, every single day, just to have a shot at winning tournaments and taking the next step up and making it to the PGA TOUR.”

Last year, he missed the cut by 11 strokes.

“I definitely feel I can use the experience last year and the few chances I get to play tournament golf to my advantage,” said Curry. “I’ve just got to get off to a better start and not hit it into a cup holder of a golf cart on the first shot Thursday.”

If he makes the cut, he’ll be the first crossover athlete to do so in a TOUR competition.

The Ellie Mae Classic begins Thursday with Round 1 and continues through the weekend. For more information, visit elliemaeclassic.com.
