For the past several weeks, former couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have been on trial. Depp was suing Heard for what she said was an op-ed piece she wrote for the Washington Post. She reflected on her experience with domestic violence and abuse — but never named her ex-husband in the piece. However, as the trial has gone on, Heard did state Depp physically and sexually assaulted her on various occasions.

The judge announced today that Heard must pay damages of $15 million to Depp. The payment breakdown is she has to pay compensation worth $10 million and $5 million to Johnny Depp.

He is suing his ex-wife for $50 million for her op-ed. Heard counter-sued Depp for $100 million claiming she was defamed by Depp’s lawyer who called her claims a “hoax”. Both individuals have accused the other of destroying their careers.

The seven-person civil jury deliberated for three days for about 12 hours.
