The Supreme Court has been facing a huge battle recently. The lawsuit had been about the Obama-era health care Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare. Republican-led states were fighting to throw out Obamacare which provides insurance coverage for millions of Americans.
Today, in a 7-2 vote, Obamacare was left intact by the Supreme Court. Furthermore, the ruling stated Texas, two individuals, and other GOP-led states had no right to initiate the lawsuit in federal court.
“Whatever the act’s dubious history in this court,” shared Justice Thomas on his opinion of the decision. “We must assess the current suit on its own terms. And, here, there is a fundamental problem with the arguments advanced by the plaintiffs in attacking the act — they have not identified any unlawful action that has injured them. Today’s result is thus not the consequence of the court once again rescuing the act, but rather of us adjudicating the particular claims the plaintiffs chose to bring.”
According to President Biden’s administration, the Affordable Care Act continues to provide 31 million individuals with health insurance.
This is the third time Republicans have attempted to turn aside Obamacare at the Supreme Court.
