According to reports, Dallas Cowboys will be choosing to move on from head coach Jason Garrett.

The Dallas Cowboys finished 8-8 on the year and will be missing the NFL playoffs this season. According to ESPN, owner Jerry Jones and executive Vice President Stephen Jones felt that with this underachieving season from the Cowboys, it was time for the two to part ways.

Garrett’s contract will be up on Jan. 14. In addition, reports state that interviews for Dallas’ next head coach will begin once Garrett’s contract is over. His future with the team had come into question when the organization did not extend him after the 2018-2019 NFL season.

ESPN reports that Garrett met with Jones on Monday and the pair were supposed to meet again on Thursday to cement his coaching status — but the meeting did not take place.

Once the news becomes official that he’s no longer with the club, the Cowboys will begin their first coaching search since Bill Parcells’ retirement after the 2006 season.

His nine years with the organization will go down as the  second-longest-tenure among Cowboy head coaches and he’ll be the team’s second-winningest coach in their history behind Tom Landry, who finished 85-67. As head coach, he only won two playoff games and was failed to get past the divisional round.
