Update (5/17/23): Owusu has taken an official visit to Penn State and will be visiting Florida this weekend, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

Ashley Owusu, the No. 1 player in the transfer portal, has yet to find a new home after leaving Virginia Tech this offseason, marking her second transfer in just two years.

The talented point guard has garnered attention from numerous colleges and universities, but sources have told The Ball Out that Owusu is currently considering Penn State, Seton Hall, Hampton and others as potential destinations.

A Promising Career on the Move

Owusu’s journey began at Paul VI Catholic High School in Virginia, where she quickly made a name for herself as a top-tier player.

After committing to the University of Maryland, Owusu continued to impress, earning the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award in her first season with the Terrapins. Despite her success, Owusu decided to enter the transfer portal after her sophomore season, marking her first major move in search of a new team.

And while things did not end well at her second stop, Virginia Tech, her undeniable skill set has made her a hot commodity in the transfer portal, with many teams eager to add her to their roster.

Owusu’s journey to Virginia Tech was supposed to be a triumphant one – a new start, new teammates, and a shot at fulfilling her basketball dreams on a grand stage. Unfortunately, she got injured early on in the season. As it often happens in sports, by the time she was fit enough to play again, the landscape had shifted.

Her spot on the rotation was no longer guaranteed, and Owusu found herself sitting on the bench. It had to be a tough pill to swallow, especially after the season when her teammates took shots at her on social media.

That’s why Owusu made the difficult decision to transfer out of Virginia Tech, determined to find a new home where she could start fresh and be the player she knew she was capable of being.

However, Owusu has yet to commit to a new team, leaving fans and analysts wondering where she will ultimately land.

Penn State and Seton Hall Emerge as Top Contenders

According to sources close to The Ball Out, Ashley Owusu is considering Penn State, Seton Hall, and Hampton, among others, as her next potential destinations. However, we are going to focus on Penn State and Seton Hall.

Both schools have strong women’s basketball programs and could greatly benefit from the addition of a player like Owusu.

Penn State, has struggled in recent years but is looking to rebuild and return to its former glory. The addition of Owusu would provide the Nittany Lions with an immediate boost in talent and experience, potentially elevating the team to new heights. Moreover, Penn State’s proximity to Owusu’s home state of Virginia could be an appealing factor for the talented guard.

On the other hand, Seton Hall has enjoyed a more successful run in recent years. The Pirates have consistently been a competitive force within their conference and have made several appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Owusu’s skill set would fit well within Seton Hall’s system, and her presence on the court could make the Pirates an even more formidable opponent. Head coach Tony Bozella has had great success with playmaking point guards over the years.

A Decision Looms for Owusu

As the women’s basketball season approaches, Ashley Owusu will need to make a decision regarding her future soon. With Penn State and Seton Hall emerging as the top contenders, fans and analysts alike eagerly await her choice.

No matter where she ends up, one thing is certain: Owusu is going to have a point to prove after how things ended with the Hokies.

As she weighs her options between Penn State, Seton Hall, Hampton, and others, it’s clear that whichever team she chooses will gain a tremendous talent with the potential to reshape their program. With the women’s basketball season fast approaching, Owusu’s decision is sure to be a game-changer for her future team and the sport as a whole.
