An FBI-led investigation identified six men who were plotting to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan. Today those six men were charged.
In NBC News’ report, multiple confidential sources and undercover FBI personnel were involved. However, despite there not being an imminent threat posed to Gov. Whitmer, the FBI was well aware of the plot. The men have been planning the kidnapping since earlier this summer as they disagreed with Whitmer’s handling of coronavirus.
The six men named in the document are as follows: Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, and Brandon Caserta.
According to one of the confidential sources, there was a conversation recorded in July about the kidnapping. The group “discussed attacking a Michigan State Police facility, and in a separate conversation after the meeting, Garbin suggested shooting up the Governor’s vacation home.”
During the summer, in late July, one of the accused kidnappers came up with a plan.
“Snatch and grab, man. Grab the f—ing governor. Just grab the b—-. Because at that point, we do that, dude — it’s over,” Fox allegedly stated to one of the informants.
In addition, the FBI’s investigation did include at least one member of the Michigan milita. Furthermore, the member allegedly told the FBI the group of men were considering killing police officers and thus agreed to become an informant.
