Twitter is a social media sight used very often by President Donald Trump. Often he is ridiculed for the various tweets he puts out and later tries to retract them. Over the weekend, the President tweeted a video where protesters could be heard shouting “white power” in response to the Republican leader, per a report by Yahoo.

The video, which remained on President Trump’s account for about three hours, was retweeted by Trump with a message of thanks to the people of The Villages, a community that is part of Sumter County, in the state of Florida. In fact, the population there exceeds an average age is 62 years and is mostly white.

The images, lasting more than two minutes, shows supporters of the president who drove in golf carts around town, while Trump’s detractors rebuked them. In the video, you could hear “Raise your white voice,” a protester told one of the drivers of a vehicle sporting “Trump 2020” and “America First (US First)” signs, to which he responded with the cry of “white power”.

Trump had accompanied the video with the following text: “Thank you to the great people of The Villages. The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!!”

President Trump’s decision to highlight a video that contains a racist phrase came amid a wave of protests in the United States and the world against racism, after the death of George Floyd and other African-Americans. Floyd died when a white Minneapolis police officer knee-clamped his neck for several minutes. Following Floyd’s death, there have been protests against police brutality and bias in law enforcement across the country.

There has also been a push to remove Confederate monuments and rename military bases that honor figures who fought in the Civil War against the Union. Trump has opposed those attempts.
