Maria M. CorneliusParticipantThe negative recruiting against Tennessee is brutal and it comes from all corners. There is a legit fear that Tennessee will be really, really, really good again.
Pat dealt with it, Holly dealt with it and now Kellie is.
It can come from other coaches, handlers, people who have a vested interest in where a player goes.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantIL, NIL is a game changer. I think it affects decisions because the Tennessee brand is so strong and visible and that is without a national title in 14 years. Imagine what will happen after the first Final Four, first natty.
Other coaches are sweating it out. No one (except Tennessee and its fans) wants Tennessee back because the Lady Vols are a juggernaut in branding and marketing.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantTennessee showed with the portal haul that it selected who it wanted. That’s a big shift. A couple of really good players had no room to get in.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantAnother question: Why do you think the Lady Vols are behind in getting commitments compared to other elite programs?
I don’t think Tennessee is behind to be honest. They seem to have clearly identified targets and will sign two to four. Kellie and crew are in position to select more than recruit now.
I know fans are antsy. I get it. They want that first one. I expect it to come soon.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantWalter asked: Can we compete with the other schools the recruits are considering from an NIL standpoint?
Another great question. Tennessee got on it right out of the gate because of Orange Mountain Designs retail store. The Lady Vol Boost HER Club is back, too, and that will benefit athletes.
State laws vary as to what schools can do, but Tennessee has been positioned really well to start and the Lady Vol brand sells.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantWhat about the 2024 class?
Tennessee really likes, in no particular order, Imari Berry, Jaloni Cambridge, Joyce Edwards, Olivia Olson and Adhel Tac, among others.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantTennessee is not recruiting Judea Watkins. Since I focus on Tennessee so much, I don’t know who is. Fortunately, I just have to track one school.
Nik, she hasn’t released it yet. I would think overlap would be SC and Tennessee but after that not sure. Rutgers is making a push in case she wants to play closer to home in college.

Maria M. CorneliusParticipantSigning class for Tennessee could be two or three or four. As of now, I don’t see space for five. Of course, the transfer portal is always the great unknown.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantQuestion: What are our chances with Nichols, Johnson, DelRosario, Velez, and Booker?
Great question. First, my disclaimer. These are teenagers making a huge decision. So predicting what they will do is a guess. No one knows except the player, family and coach, and a mind can change at anytime. With that said: I think Nichols is a heavy lean to Tennessee as of now. I think Tennessee is in good shape with Booker (who will visit Texas, too). Tennessee has done all it can to get Del Rosario. Now, it’s wait and see. Velez may play with her longtime friend or they could pick different schools. Johnson exploded in July. Everyone wants her. I think she has a lot to sort out.
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantWalter, waiting on everyone to get in. If anyone has a question fire away!
Maria M. CorneliusParticipantHi Amanda, waiting on Mike and others to get through!
