Rapper Tory Lanez – whose real name is Daystar Peterson – was convicted today after a Los Angeles court found him guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion back in 2020.

Lanez was found guilty on three charges: one felony of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a car. Megan Thee Stallion alleged Lanez shot her in her feet after the two attended a party at Kylie Jenner’s home in 2020.

“I want to start by highlighting the bravery of Megan Pete,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “You showed incredible courage and vulnerability with your testimony despite repeated and grotesque attacks that you did not deserve. You faced unjust and despicable scrutiny that no woman should ever face and you have been an inspiration to others across LA County and the nation.

Back in November of 2020, Lanez pleaded not guilted and is facing up to 22 years and eight months in prison as well as subsequent deportation (Lanez is from Canada).

His sentencing hearing is set for January 27, 2023.
